Woolly Rhino Research Paper
The Woolly Rhino
I am going to write about the woolly rhino. Its habitat, time period, and even its behaviors are all going to be in this paper. Some of the woolly rhinos fossils have been discovered throughout Asia and even Europe.

The woolly rhinos time period was pretty long. The woolly rhino lived about 350,000 years ago until it went extinct about 10,000 years ago.

The woolly rhino could easily live in the cold. Because of its long and thick fur the woolly rhino could easily live in the cold. It only used its horns for defence.

The woolly rhino was a herbivore and only ate plants. They only used their horn for defence not for killing animals.

The woolly rhino looked very scary looking. Its teeth looked like a sharks but a bit smaller.

Christy provides some well-placed photos throughout his article, but his description of what occurs while poaching is what really allows him to reach the reader. He explains, "Rhinos don't roar when they're injured. They keen. A shot mother will cry in pain, sometimes inadvertently causing her frightened baby to return to her. Poachers will sever a baby's spine with a machete to save a bullet, then take its horn too." Through his introduction of baby rhinos, he makes it difficult for the reader not to feel sympathetic towards his cause. Christy then takes that one step further by introducing Markus Hofmeyr, manager of veterinary services, who recalls what he witnessed one day. They emphasize the fact, "Cutting a horn too close to its growing point can cause bleeding and, veterinarians say, can be painful. Hofmeyr speculated that some horns had been removed 'by inserting a knife and separating the attachment area of the horn from the base of the skull or applying a large force and tearing the horn from the base.'" Hofmeyr was describing what he saw at Prachtig, where the bodies of several dead rhinos were uncovered with their horns missing. It is through his recollection of that day, along with Christy's description of the fate of baby rhinos that really close out his argument and leave a lasting impression on the…

First of all, something that makes the Pyrenees Mountain Range so fascinating is the rich history that lies in its peaks. Even though that most of the mountain passes were high and difficult, medieval pilgrims and even invading armies and barbarian hordes would persevere and cross over the mountain. The were actually numerous amounts of pilgrims, trekking across the range while on their way to Santiago de Compostela (Pyrenees). Fast forward a couple hundred years to 1903 when the organizers of the Tour de France, which is essentially a bike race taken place mostly in France, added the Pyrenees mountains to their tour. Most of the riders that were able to finish the range said that it was probably the hardest part of the entire tour (Tour de France in Pyrenees). Another thing that you may find interesting to this mountain range is the fact that the Pyrenees lies in both france and Spain. There are six spanish provinces that are in the Pyrenees as well as parts of six French departments (Pyrenees). The Pyrenees has a history that is pretty unique to its parts.…

Although smaller species such as the reindeer, bison and musk ox survived, larger species like the woolly rhinoceros, the woolly mammoth and the wild horse went extinct. The much larger cold-adapted species had a harder time to adapt to the temperature fluctuations (Voss). Larger organisms produce more heat in their bodies than smaller organisms do, thus the additional heat of the climate was of no help. Even if those large animals did adapt to the new climate, if there was already a decline in number for their population, it would be hard to recover from their loss due to their longer gestation periods compared to smaller animals (Dayton 1819). The increase in global temperatures demanded a great amount of adaptation from these beasts which caused extinctions if the adaptation wasn't done quick…

The Loch Ness Monster or otherwise known as Nessie by the ancient Celts gets its name from its location in Scotland. It is located in the Great Glen in the Scottish highlands to be exact. The Great Glen in the Scottish highlands is a rift valley 60 miles long and contains three famous lochs, Lochy, Oich and Ness. The most famous of these lochs is Loch Ness because of the monster said to live in its deep waters. It is deeper than the North Sea and is very long and very, very narrow. The Scottish Highlands have long been home to mystery and belief in the supernatural. People of Scotland believe that the Loch Ness is home to Druid powers. The Celts of pre-Roman Britain also believed in a type of creature they called kelpies, water spirits that would appear to children in the forms of horses or bulls, enticing them into the water where they would drown them("Loch Ness Monster", 1998).…
