Wooden Board Critique
The painting has been done on the wooden board. The artist has used oil paints as its medium. The painting, however does not include the whole wooden board. The subject is situated at the center of the board and the rest of the board is left blank. This is why the viewers have their focus at the center of the board. The very thing that attracts the viewers towards this painting is the color that has been used in the painting. The use of bright colors like white and blue makes it look vibrant and beautiful. Looking at the painting for the first time will give us many different views and opinions towards it. To some of us the man's face might seem as he must be enjoying some kind of rock music or doing a head bang (because that was my first opinion towards the painting). But later as we focus and try going deep into the painting the use of the colors will help explaining more about it. The colors seems to bursting out everywhere. There is a use of many different colors such as blue, white, maroon, and brown. The blue color here signifies the emotion. It helps explaining the emotion such as fear, anxiety, and sadness. This color can also be considered as a medium representing water and along with this, the white color can be consider as the water bubbles blowing. So, the use of blue and white color makes the man look as if he is drowning. He might be drowning in some kind of emotion. Now, the other color such as brown, maroon helps finding out what kind of emotion the artist is trying to show. The color brown and maroon being a dull color we can interpret that the artist is trying to show some kind of dull emotion. So, we can say that the man is overwhelmed with sadness.
