Women's Role In Terrorism Research Paper
Role in Terrorist Organizations Women have assumed various roles within terrorist organizations. “The role women and girls play in armed conflict; terrorism and violent extremism include direct combat as perpetrators, commanders, suicide bombers, and human shields” (Martin, 2013, p. 5). Women often assume the role of suicide bombers, as males are quick to put females in this position for various reasons. Women are far more capable of staying under the radar and out of sight of profilers as many counties are in denial that females are as heavily involved in terrorist organizations as proven. Furthermore, male jihadists have pushed the role of the suicide bomber on women, as they are far more capable of disguising their weapons in order to complete the task. The act of the suicide bomber is also considered a warrior. Warriors are heavily trained for various tasks within terror cells; while female suicide bombers take on an important task, they are only considered help to their male jihad equivalent, as females are not allowed to obtain a vast amount of information on the policies inside the group (Sutten, 2009).
