Wolf Packs: A Fictional Narrative
“Mom, where are you?” I yelled. As I opened my beak, I got swept up and shoved into a crate. My heart was beating as if it were going to explode. “Ouch!”
Boom! The lid from my crate burst open. I climbed out just enough so my eye could see the wide-open sea. I saw a black figure. Mom! I jumped out of the crate and swam towards the figure.
I reached the shore and climbed out of the water, right in front of a wolf pack that was standing on the beach. “Who are you?” said a black wolf. I was still trembling with fear. “Umm, my name is Sky. This is my wife, Kate, and my two pups, Lexie and Ben,” said the wolf. “If you want to survive, then follow me, if you can run.” And they ran off, leaving me in the dust.

I swelled up with nervousness. What will happen? I wondered. Could I be accepted into the pack? Kate came and welcomed me into the pack. I was jumping with excitement.
The next day, I had to go to wolf school. When I entered the classroom, all the wolves looked at me. I ignored them and went to my desk. The day passed, and school was finally dismissed. I couldn’t play any of the wolf games that the other cubs were enjoying. I just wanted to be home with my mom. I was drowning in my tears. I’m too different, I thought. I’ll just go. I left a note on the cave wall in case the wolves came looking for me.
I wandered in the forest for a few days, getting hungrier and more homesick. Suddenly, I saw humans—the ones who first captured me! Without thinking, I hid, but thanks to my tears they found me. They gave me a warm welcome and some food. “We’re taking you home,” they said. The wolf pack came and I said my goodbyes. They promised they would visit someday. The people brought me back to the Toronto Zoo, and every spring the wolves come and visit. That is how I became a
