Wolf Packs: A Fictional Narrative
“Mom, where are you?” I yelled. As I opened my beak, I got swept up and shoved into a crate. My heart was beating as if it were going to explode. “Ouch!”
Boom! The lid from my crate burst open. I climbed out just enough so my eye could see the wide-open sea. I saw a black figure. Mom! I jumped out of the crate and swam towards the figure.
I reached the shore and climbed out of the water, right in front of a wolf pack that was standing on the beach. “Who are you?” said a black wolf. I was still trembling with fear. “Umm, my name is Sky. This is my wife, Kate, and my two pups, Lexie and Ben,” said the wolf. “If you want to survive, then follow me, if you can run.” And they ran off, leaving me in the dust.
I felt hopeless, lost, and confused, but I heard a tiny voice telling me to follow their tracks, so I did. I breathlessly reached the pack. I felt as

I swelled up with nervousness. What will happen? I wondered. Could I be accepted into the pack? Kate came and welcomed me into the pack. I was jumping with excitement.
The next day, I had to go to wolf school. When I entered the classroom, all the wolves looked at me. I ignored them and went to my desk. The day passed, and school was finally dismissed. I couldn’t play any of the wolf games that the other cubs were enjoying. I just wanted to be home with my mom. I was drowning in my tears. I’m too different, I thought. I’ll just go. I left a note on the cave wall in case the wolves came looking for me.
I wandered in the forest for a few days, getting hungrier and more homesick. Suddenly, I saw humans—the ones who first captured me! Without thinking, I hid, but thanks to my tears they found me. They gave me a warm welcome and some food. “We’re taking you home,” they said. The wolf pack came and I said my goodbyes. They promised they would visit someday. The people brought me back to the Toronto Zoo, and every spring the wolves come and visit. That is how I became a

“St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves” by Karen Russell is a short story about a “pack” of girls raised by werewolves that are severely lycanthropic. Their parents send them to a home called St. Lucy’s run by Jesuit nuns that’s goal is to eradicate all traces of wolf culture and behavior from the girls, and assimilate them into human culture. To help them, the nuns have a handbook called “The Jesuit Handbook on Lycanthropic Culture Shock”. The handbook divides each part of the “packs” development into human culture into 5 stages. The main character, Claudette, develops a lot throughout each of the 5 stages, but still has some struggles. By the end of the story, Claudette is very close to fully adapting, but still has some wolf like tendencies.…

She narrows her eyes at Kyle and flattens her ears, (Russell 242) and when the time comes to do Sausalito, Claudette panics and can only remember how to the “pump and pump” (Russell, 243). It was a cold and chilly afternoon on July 17, 2015, when twelve year old Jared Guese encountered a black bear and its two cubs. Leading up to this event, his parents had planned a trip to Sequoia National Park during summer break. Mainly so they could do something besides sit around in their house all day. Jared was not that excited to be going, but he smiled and gave a sarcastic, “Sounds fun!” The car trip there was around four hours long and was very tedious. Once the family arrived at the campsite, they unpacked all of their belongings and set up a large tent.…

Tyler “is dropped alone onto the frozen tundra, where he begins his mission to live among the howling wolf packs and study their waves” (http://www.amazon.com/Never-Cry-Wolf-Amazing-Arctic/dp/0316881791). Because he is without any survival skills and unsure of where to go and start, his adventure almost ends before it even begins. He is attacked by wolves, but fortunately a travelling Inuit named Ootek sees and rescues him. At first, Tyler just tries to survive in unknown environment. He is really scared, so at nights he dreams of how wolves are attacking him. Contact with Tyler’s quarry comes quickly – he notices two wolves. In his notebook, he names them George and Angeline. They have pups and observe Tyler’s behavior just like he observes theirs. He studies the animals day by day and he is more and more enthusiastic about them. The wolves are surprisingly very patient, Tyler becomes the object of their attention and they accept him in their environment. They both accept each other’s boundaries; they indicate that when they mark their territories with urine - this is for Tyler much harder than for “George”. The result is trust and respect between them. Consequently, one sunny day, Tyler discovers wolves’ eating habits – in less than an hour, Angeline catches and consumes 23 mice. There…

“Wolves are the dogs that stayed behind.” The world is a cruel place. A thing that can be treasured in one instance can be a threat in the next. For many people, we stare at the natural world and see its rugged beauty and wish that we could captivate it for ourselves. The case is no different for our modern dogs. Bred from the “empty canvas” of a wolf, we’ve modified, altered, formed, transformed, reformed, and remodified wolves to be one of the closest companions we have still today: dogs. But through all of our perfecting and reshaping that we’ve done to our best friends’ closest ancestors, wolves have prevailed, echoing their famous legacy still throughout the world. Wolves, now in danger of extinction, are one of the greatest controversies…

I sucked in my unhappiness and we went to the gift shop to buy tickets. After that, we went around the first half of the Zoo. Only the bear was awake while all the other animals slept. After looking around the first half a bit, I felt very dissatisfied until we saw the second half of the Zoo. My hopes went high again and as we passed the restrooms I saw those same bushes with purple flowers. The bees buzzed around them making an irritating drone as they hopped from flower to flower in a dreadful way. I quickly panicked and ran away from the bees to another exhibit. My parents followed me as I looked at a model of generators that powered the zoo. We continued down the path leading to turtles, which I ignored because of my boredom with the place. We saw some foxes which are my favorite animal and helped my mood a little bit. However, due to the lack of animals that were up and about (except for the vulture, hawk, bear, and fox) and the lack of variety in animals, I began to complain about how this trip was a waste of time. My father commented that the purple flowers attracted bees and would you know it, I was wearing purple pants and shirt with purple flowers. I began to have a whining fit on how I hated coming here, that the clothes I wore were an awful choice, and that my mother should have listened to me and we should’ve went to the humane…

It all started when our neighbor, Mrs. Longbottom, asked Jimmy, Peter, and me to babysit her pet gorilla. Ms. Longbottom had an immense amount of wild animals, including tigers, lions, and elephants. One night, we went over to the Longbottom's house. It was old and rustic. When I looked in the backyard, I saw a big hole in the ground. It was about thirty feet deep. I looked around for Howie. Then I heard a big roar. It was coming from upstairs. I went upstairs, and it was a mess.…

A very surprising science fiction story that reverses the werewolf idea. A wolf turns into a man and scares the living daylights out of his wolf wife and wolf children. What makes this story amazing is that LeGuin tricks us, throughout much of the story, into believing that the tale is about humans. She teases us with issues of child abuse, male-female relationships, life in a small town, and sisterly devotion, but she upsets our expectations, forces us to ask questions, re-read the story, and come to see that man is just as frightening as beast.I have to admit I had to read this story 2 times before I could really understand the meaning of it but when it finally came to me I was just amazed. This story is great.…

When nothing was heard about the rabbits for some weeks, the other animals demanded to know what had happened to them. The wolves replied that the rabbits had been eaten and since they had been eaten the affair was a purely internal matter. But the other animals warned that they might possibly unite against the wolves unless some reason was given for the destruction of the rabbits. So the wolves gave them one. "They were trying to escape," said the wolves, "and, as you know, this is no world for escapists."…
