Firms in this industry largely make mobile phones and equipment used in radio and television broadcasting and in satellite communications. The Major companies include Apple, Motorola Mobility Holdings, and QUALCOMM based in the US; Foxconn and HTC, both based in Taiwan, and Ericsson based in Sweden (Mergent, 2014). Globally, wireless phone and data service subscriptions total more than 6.8 billion (Mergent, 2014). Concentration of supply chain globally for wireless handsets is concentrated in Asia, with U.S. production limited. Intensified domestic and international competition has bring about the outsourcing of production, industry consolidation, firm specialization, and decreasing employment (Rogowsky & Laney-Cummings, 2010).
