Will Smith

In my life , I have had many Idols-From Eddie Murphy to Tupac, they have never been scarce in number. However, I am taking this time to dedicate my essay to the one person I find has had an adventurous life-Will Smith. At the age of sixteen, Smith met a DJ at a party. The pair became friends, and the rapping duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and soon enough the Fresh Prince was born. Wilfard Christopher Smith Jr. was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Son of Caroline, a school board employee, and father Wilard C. Smith, the owner of a refrigeration company. His middle class upbringing saw him attend the strict-and Catholic- Overbrook High School, despite his family’s observation of the Baptist faith. Because of his behavior, he had gained himself the nickname Fresh Prince in high school, where he ended his schooling career.

After skipping college, Will Smith recorded many rap albums, where he started off his rap career, earning the first Grammy ever given in the rap category. However, it was not to be. Heading towards bankruptcy in the year of 1990, Will Smith made a contract with NBC, agreeing to be the main character of the next TV sitcom, titled The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. The sitcom was about a street-smart kid from Philadelphia where the character was going to be shipped off to California to live with his wealthy relatives in Bel-Air, California. Playing on his rapper persona, and at times featuring his friend Towne, The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air was a huge success that ran for six seasons.

In the meantime, Smith and Towne kept producing music. Keeping in mind that Smith always made his music squeaky clean because he knowing as they were

Embodying the rags-to-riches rap dream, Jay-Z pulled himself up by his bootstraps as a youth to eventually become the reigning rapper of New York City and, in turn, a major-label executive following his short-lived retirement from music-making. In the wake of his 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, Jay-Z's albums sold millions upon millions with each release, and his endless parade of hits made him omnipresent on urban radio and video television. He retained a strongly devoted fan base and challenged whatever rivals attempted to oust him from atop the rap game, sparring most memorably with Nas. Jay-Z and his Roc-a-Fella associates greatly influenced the industry and established many of the trends that pervaded during the late '90s and early 2000s. He consistently worked with the hottest producers of the day (Clark Kent, DJ Premier, Teddy Riley, Trackmasters, Erick Sermon, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz), and if they weren't hot at the time, they likely would be afterward (the Neptunes, Kanye West, Just Blaze, 9th Wonder). He similarly collaborated with the hottest rappers in the industry, everyone from East Coast contemporaries like the Notorious B.I.G. ("Brooklyn's Finest") and DMX ("Cash, Money, Hoes"), to the best rappers from the South (Ludacris, Missy Elliott) and the West Coast (Snoop Dogg, Too Short). After his self-declared retirement from rapping in 2003, he assumed the presidency of the seminal rap label Def Jam and, as an industry executive, embarked on another phase in his illustrious career.…

    Fresh Prine of Bel Air

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is about a young man named Will who is sent to live in Beverly Hills with his rich aunt and uncle who already have three children. Will is sent to live in Beverly Hills because his mother does not want him to be raised in a neighborhood full of crime and low life. She feels that he stands a better chance of a better education and life with people that have money and were educated. Will’s mother expected him to become respectful, responsible, and mature. The show deals with his life experiences as a young African American who is just trying to get by life and school. He also deals with similar teenage experiences that occur today. The show stays interesting because Will brings a bit of his neighborhood soul and street smarts to the Banks family. He teaches them what he has learned and they teach him how rich, high society people should act. In every episode, Will brings them back to reality, his old life experiences. He teaches them that money isn’t everything In return, the Banks teach him a few things that highly educated people have experienced. Although Fresh Prince of Bel Air has real world life experiences, the show portrays how African Americans during the 1990’s were rising and beginning to take status in society. They were getting educated just like any other person. Television producers were making a statement to society; African Americans were no longer staying behind educationally. Although African Americans were getting educated and climbing the latter of success, discrimination still existed.…

    Steve Mcqueen Essay

An example can be seen in Steve McQueen’s Deadpan (1997), shown in a ‘black box’ installation space covering a wall entirely, from floor to ceiling. The black & white film scene presents McQueen re-staging a scene from the Buster Keaton silent movie Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928). He stands still with his back to a wall of a house that slowly falls toward him, that leaves him unhurt due to a window space in the wall that falls accurately over the place where he stands. The installation has been designed so that the lower edge of the projected film is flush with the floor of the intervention space, so that it looks as though the wall of the house were actually falling into the room where the viewer stands, that is to say, falling ‘out’ of the projected space. The silent four minute uninterrupted loop splits the perspective throughout a sequence of shots taken from different angles, combined with dramatic composition and an ever increasing speed of the falling wall to cause the viewer to become progressively aware of the repeated event. By design, McQueen creates a physical tactility of the filmic experience through space and affect, by confronting the viewer with the perceived effect of their own physical truth. As a…

    Triumph Of The Will Essay

Triumph of the Will is viewed by many as one of the most influential propaganda films created. I believe this film captured the essence of Hitler’s meteoric rise to power. Through this film, Hitler was very successful in furthering his message of a united Germany. Triumph of the Will serves as a template allowing us to analyze how Hitler used the movie to create an image of himself that he could project onto the German state. Though many attempts were made to capture the extent of Hitler’s power I believe this movie was the most successful through utilization of staged events, inciting rhetoric, and superb cinematic techniques.…

To me, Richie’s most difficult choice was joining the army in the first place. Yea, he was coming from a rough family with not a lot of money but he, at first, wanted to go to college and move on to bigger and better things. There was a way for him though to go to college. Richie wanted to be a writer so if he doesn’t decide to join the army, in a few years he could be a famous writer. He also played basketball. He could have earned a basketball scholarship and move to higher levels of the game. Maybe the army wasn’t the best choice for Richie, but maybe going to college or staying home in that rough neighborhood wouldn’t be a good one either. I believe he had many tough decisions but this was his toughest.…
