Wilfred Owen Script Transformation
My Little Brother
Marwa Safi

It’s a cold frosty night in the trenches and nearly all the soldiers are fast asleep. John finds a spot to rest and prepares for the night. He takes out a blanket from his back and sees his little brother’s hat.

(Sigh deeply with tears in his eyes)
JOHN Why did you have to leave me so quick (pause) we didn’t finish off our debate about who will be the better football player
(Puts the hat against his chest and lies down looking at the stars)
I told you not to go further in the fields but you being the stubborn, arrogant show off that you are, carried on walking and then...then...don’t worry little brother, I will seek revenge, I will shoot him at the back of his head just the way he shot you. He took my innocent, joyful little brother away from me, I will take his life away from him...what goes around comes around right Kevy
(Looking up at the brightest star in the sky and talking to it pretending its Kevin)
Even in this terrifying field you didn’t fail to make me laugh or embarrass me in front of the rest. I don’t know how you did it...how do you put a smile on your face and be so positive all the time when really inside your crying like a mother cries for her dead child. What do you mean how do I know? Of course I know what’s been going round in your head, I’m your brother...and I failed to be a good brother, I failed at protecting you, I didn’t love you and show as much love as I should have...forgive me
(Closes his eyes)
I remember when you were just born...you had a heart-warming smile on your face it melted everyone’s heart. You defiantly got more girls than me, that charm you had I was quite jealous that I didn’t. It’s been exactly eleven days and five hours that you left me. Eighteen of December on Friday at exactly 3:45, I will never forget this day; the heavens were in need of another angel I guess.
(Open his eyes with tears running down his face)

Wilfred Owen successfully creates the truthful and terrifying image of war within his poems. The loss, sacrifice, urgency and pity of war are shown within the themes of his poetry and the use of strong figurative language; sensory imagery and tone contribute to the reader. This enables the reader to appreciate Owen’s comments about the hopelessness of war and the sacrifice the men around him went through within his poems, ‘Dulce et Decorum Est.’ and ‘Futility’.…

For several years, World War II had been raging in Europe. In 1945, German soldiers surrounded Russia and tried to choke off the train of supplies entering the country. Leningrad, Russia remained under constant bombing by German aircraft. Leningrad was a key location for Russia’s war efforts due to its manufacturing facilities and needed to stay functional. Lev Beniov was on the roof of his apartment building watching the anti-aircraft balloons above the city. It was on this night that a dead German paratrooper landed in front of Lev’s building. As the news reached all the boys and girls on the roof, they rushed down to examine and loot the dead soldier. Within minutes, Russian soldiers appeared. Lev’s friends deserted him and he was arrested and thrown into the Crosses. After spending the night, Colonel Grechko gave Lev a chance to redeem himself for his wrongs and save his life. Through…

Wilfred Owens' poetry on war can be described as a passionate expression of Owen's outrage over the horrors of war and pity for the young soldiers sacrificed in it. His poetry is dramatic and memorable, whether describing shame and sorrow, such as in 'The Last Laugh', or his description of the unseen psychological consequences of war detailed in 'The Next War' and 'Anthem for Doomed Youth'. His diverse use of instantly understandable technique is what makes him the most memorable of the war poets. His poetry evokes more than simple disgust and sympathy from the reader; issues previously unconsidered are brought to our attention.…

“Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge” (Owen 1514) is one of many somber lines that Owen uses to depict a World War I battleground in his work Dulce et Decorum Est. This poem begins with descriptions of the cruelty of war, of soldiers who were missing boots, but were so frightened that they limped along, exhausted beyond comparison, unconscious of even bombshells as they dropped. Out of these deteriorating men, Owen fashions a narrator, a man lucky enough to snap his mask into place before a flood of noxious gas filled the air. One comrade, however, was comparatively unlucky, and breathed the hazardous chemicals. The narrator is then forced to watch his comrade suffer as told in a particularly sad line of the poem, “He…

Today is one of those rare days in which it is raining and I’m sitting on the windowsill waiting for a sign. Something that says ‘move on’. There is still a part of me that hopes every day that you're alive and I haven't found you yet. I will have searched the far corners of the earth before I let myself believe you dead. I dream of you every night, then wake with the bitter taste of regret fresh in my mouth. You abandoned me. You have marooned me on this earth, and it is dark without your light by my side. All that fills my mind is when you were still beside me. I distinctly recall one summer when we were not quite children anymore and still too young to be adults. It was raining so hard that the streets were flooded for the first time in eighty years, and you had insisted on escaping to the desert.…

The story “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien is an enormously detailed fictional account of a wartime scenario in which jimmy Cross (the story’s main character) grows as a person, and the emotional and physical baggage of wartime are brought to light. The most obvious and prominent feature of O’Brien’s writing is a repetition of detail. O’brien also passively analyzes the effects of wartime on the underdeveloped psyche by giving the reader close up insight into common tribulations of war, but not in a necessarily expositorial sense.. He takes us into the minds of mere kids as they cope with the unbelievable and under-talked-about effects or rationalizing death, discomfort and loneliness as well as the themes of heroism, physical and mental pain, and a loss of innocence. Obrien achieves this through extended description, imagery and tone coupled with an intimate relationship with the stories main characters.…

World War 1 was the bloodiest war, and was a very important part of history, yet so many people only know one side of the war. Most people know the side of Jessie Pope and the Armchair Poets. Jessie Pope and the Armchair poets wrote poems about war, sitting in the comfort of their own home. Jessie Pope praised war; she made war sound so wonderful and encouraged young men to join the war efforts. Wilfred Owen did not like that those poets did not truly know what was going on, yet pretended that they did know. Wilfred Owen’s poem is very significant in the way that the poem shows what war is really like. Owen’s poem quickly became my favorite poem ever written. Therefore, I recommend that you keep Owen’s poem “Dulce et Decorum Est,” because he uses imagery and alliteration to effectively relay that war is cruel, and war is lied about.…

It is 2:00 in the morning and most of our men are asleep in their dugouts - yet I could not sleep myself before writing to you of the wonderful events of Christmas Eve. In truth, what happened seems almost like a fairy tale, and if I hadn’t been through it myself, I would scarcely believe it. Just imagine: While you and the family sang christmas song together on the christmas eve in London, I did the same thing here with enemy soldiers on the battlefields of France! Doesn’t it sound absurd or somewhat unbelievable?…
