b. He was born on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky.
II. 1954
a. He had his bike stolen when he was 12
b. he talks to a policeman telling him that he wants to beat up the kid who stole his bike, so he went to the boxing arena and met personal trainer; Fred Stoner.
c. over the next 6 years he won six Kentucky Golden Gloves championships, two national Golden Gloves titles, and two AAU (Amateur Athletic Union)
III. 1960
a. wins the light heavy-weight gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Rome
b. Disgusted, Muhammad throws his gold medal into the Ohio river because of how racist his hometown of Kentucky is
c. he turns professional and wins the first 2 fights of his career
IV. 1964
a. by then he has a 19-0 record
b. becomes heavyweight champion of the world
c. after the fight, he announced that he had become a black Muslim and changed his name to Muhammad Ali
V. 1967
a. refuses to enter the U.S. Army due to his religious beliefs
b. angers many Americans after claiming, "I ain't got no quarrel with those Vietcong."
c. He is then stripped of his WBA title and his license to fight.
d. sentenced to 5 years in prison because the court finds him guilty of draft evasion

VI. 1970

b. no state boxing commission in Georgia
c. returns to the ring in Atlanta and knocks out Jerry Quarry in 3 rounds
VII. 1971
a. Fights heavyweight champ, Joe Frazier, in MSG. a left hook by Frazier knocks Ali down in the 15th round and Frazier wins by unanimous vote.
b. 3 months later, hi draft conviction is dropped
VIII. 1974
a. in January, he gets Frazier back by winning the fight in the 12th round
b. wins heavyweight title back by beating
