Wifi, or wireless local area network, had an unsuccessful beginning, a very complex way of working, and many helpful uses in today’s world. It is an internet source for a small area and can be used wirelessly. It is a convenient source for entertainment and communication. It works by using a transmitter and a receiver. There are many types of wireless systems.
Wifi had its very first beginning back in 1985 with the decision by the Federal Communications Commission to open several bands of wireless spectrum. By opening the bands, the government allowed them to be used without the need for a government license. The bands at 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz were being used at the time for uses other than communication. For example microwave ovens use radio waves in these frequencies to heat up food. The FCC made them available only if devices using these frequencies would not interfere with existing technology. At the time there was not anybody taking advantage of the decision by the FCC (The Economist).
It would not be until 1991 that Wifi would begin to be used in the industry. Wifi, as we know it today, was created by

Wireless signals are all around us as we walk or drive around the city or town where we live. The four types of wireless technologies that are out there are Wi-Fi, Cellular, Bluetooth, and WiMAX. We will be looking at these types of wireless technologies a little more in depth, where are they most commonly used, and how they differ from one another. The first wireless technology that we will be looking at is the Wi-Fi wireless signal. The Wi-Fi signal is mainly associated with computer networking, the specification used to create a wireless local area network is the IEEE 802.11. One would use this type of wireless technology if you were a business owner opening up a coffee shop and needed a public network. The network would have a wired connection to an internet source, then leading to a wireless router that transmits and receives the data from all of the customer’s devices that want to use the Wi-Fi. This will also connect all of the devices to one another through the network. The next type of wireless technology that we will be looking at is Cellular. This type of wireless technology is most often associated with wireless telephones. The cellular network is connected to cells that will enable a user to move around freely while staying connected to the network. This type of signal is used everywhere you go nowadays and are used by everyone. There are a multitude of devices that use these networks at one time and those include, smart phones, tablets, and some computers can use the cell towers to get a signal to be able to use the internet. The first generation of cellular signals was completely analog, and from there with the growing demand of faster speeds and better connectivity technology brought us 2G, 3G, and the ever popular 4G phones. Bluetooth is the next technology that we will touch on and is very similar to the Wi-Fi and cellular networks but on…

Wireless communication is defined as the process of transfer of information from one point to more than one point without a physical medium. They uses radio waves for their transferring process because the distance of radio waves can be short, such as a few meters for television and even millions of kilometres for space communications. It has certain applications in fixed, mobile, and portable devices, including two-way radios, cellular telephones, personal digitalassistants (PDAs),and wirelessnetworking..Also.it.consists.of.certain.applications.include.GPSdevices ,computer.mice, keyboards ,headsets, headphones, satelliteTV , broadcast television an cordless telephones. The basic block diagram of wireless communication is shown in Fig(1.1).…

Wi-Fi is a popular technology that al over a computer network, including high-speed Internet connections. The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as any "wireless local area network (WLAN) products that are based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) 802.11 standards".[A device that can use Wi-Fi can connect to a network resource such as the Internet via a wireless network access point. Such an access point (or hotspot) has a range of about 20 meters (65 feet) indoors and a greater range outdoors. Hotspot coverage can comprise an area as small as a single room with walls that block radio waves or as large as many square miles — this is achieved by using multiple overlapping access points. Wi-Fi can be less secure than wired connections because an intruder does not need a physical connection.…

Image a business environment without networking wires connecting to every device. How would information travel to their destination? Well, there is an emerging technology that is here and can transmit packets wirelessly, but it is not being fully utilized in the business world like it could be. That technology is called Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi does not stand for anything nor is it an acronym. The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as any “wireless local area network (WLAN) products that are based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) 802.11 standards”. (Wi-Fi) There are several components that make up Wi-Fi, so naming a single inventor would be difficult. Let's take a look at the history of the 802.11 standard (the radio frequency)…

The term Wi-Fi, first used commercially in August 1999, was coined by a brand-consulting firm called Inter-brand Corporation. The Wi-Fi Alliance had hired Inter-brand to determine a name that was "a little catchier than 'IEEE 802.11b Direct Sequence'". Belanger also stated that Inter-brand invented Wi-Fi as a play on words with Hi-Fi (high fidelity), and also created the Wi-Fi logo.…
