Why I Wish To Attend St
Why I wish to attend St. Thomas University
In my junior year of high school I attended a college fair at the Broward convention center. It was time for the college fair to end so I walked around to every table and came across St. Thomas University. I only had a few minutes but I stood and talked to a Representative from the school. During our conversation I mostly asked about the volleyball team because at the time I was captain of my volleyball team and wanted to play in college. After the brief conversation the representative handed me a pamphlet. On my way home I began to make a list of all the schools that I wanted to attend and I put St. Thomas in my list. In the summer of my junior year and the beginning of my senior year I began applying for schools and requesting a more information so I could make a decision on where I wanted to apply to. I continued to look at my list again and started checking off the schools I applied for when I finished the application. On December 3, I received an open house invitation from St. Thomas. I registered and went On December 6 with my mom to the open house. As I was walking on campus trying to find the Evelyn & George Goldbloom Convocation Hall. I began to have this feeling I couldn’t explain. At first I thought the feeling was excitement or nervousness but as the open house progressed I detected the feeling. During the open house, to start the program we had to say a prayer which, amazed me because I’m a believer in Christian faith and in order to start the day we have to pray. At that moment I began to like the school . I learned what the school valued, tututoin cost, all of the and what is most important to them. What really intrigued me the most about St. Thomas was the ambience of the school, the class size, the science department and the one on one time with the professor and it is a beautiful and peaceful campus. As we went on the tours we met the professors in the science department and they spoke to the group about their labs and classes and how it would be to sit in their class rooms. Including showcasing an interesting experiment with a water bottle and dry ice. When the tours were over and my mother I sat down I kept telling her I love this school and she agreed. I finally knew what the feeling was it was a sign telling me this is where I needed to be. At the end of open house they did a raffle and my ticket number was pulled I won 2000 dollars towards tuition at St. Thomas I was ecstatic and absolutely fell in love with my future college and it was clarification that this is the school for me.

In my freshman year, I went to Ohio Mission Trip, which was led by Mrs. Lundquist. While I had an amazing life experience through volunteering, I was able to become closer to my friends and upper classmen. Darby and Sydney Lundquist also joined the trip, and they shortly introduced me about Washington and Lee University. I assumed the college should be very advanced since they were well-known for their excellence in intelligence and sports. This year I attended a college meeting with Mr. Webster to get to know more about the college. It was a great opportunity for me to grasp a big picture of the school as well as more specific details of admissions. I immediately fell in love with the school as Mr. Webster explained about the school in detail.…

It was that night I learned about the college. As my father and I always parked at the Holy Cross campus to go to the football games I really liked the feel of everything and could one day picture myself on these grounds. One thing that I always liked about this college was that, it was not too big or too small it was just right and fit me well. Every time my dad and I needed directions or short cuts to the games, many of the times it was the Holy Cross students and they were very polite and helpful. Another thing that I had always planned to do when I go to college was do my best to make it to a catholic college because my faith is what shapes me and is what makes me the hardworker and persistent person I am. If accepted into Holy Cross not only would it be an honor but I would take great pride and do everything I can to…

“Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed…

Growing up Iranian American, I was greatly impacted by the opinions of my peers early on. Classmates would criticize my lunch or convey evident shock at the fact that I was Muslim, so I grew up feeling patronized for much of my early life. Eventually, I began surrounding myself with others who were also in my shoes, facing the discrimination that came along with being different. Over the years growing up surrounded in a fusion of cultures has made me appreciate the diversity that makes each culture so unique. Growing up traveling the world, learning multiple languages and being encouraged to accept all that cultures have to offer is something that is very beneficial in today’s global society and something that I will bring to SMU’s diverse campus. Should I be fortunate enough to attend SMU I will bring my open mind and worldly perspective to the learning environment and clubs on campus. Within the classroom I’d apply my background in my desire to study conflict within the Middle East and ways to resolve that.…

One day I had a conversation about my struggle to find a college to a mentor of mine. My mentor informed how he had recently visited a college in Missouri where his friend worked called College of the Ozarks. As he began to describe the college, I became more and more intrigued. It did not bother me that I did not know where Missouri was on the map or that I had never stepped foot there. As I researched the college I finally became sure of at least one thing, I was sure that I belonged at College of the…
