Why I Want to Be a Teacher
My sister is one of the reasons I want to be a teacher. Everyday she has many stories to tell me about her kids. She is always very eager to tell me how her students are learning as each day goes by, Even the one or two kids that struggle in her class. She gives them the confidence to master in the area they are struggling. My sister always says that a teacher is never done learning; she learns everyday with her kids. She always gives her kids the attention they do not receive at home. She makes her kids feel welcome everyday they go into her classroom. Her students go home and all they do is talk about how their teacher is very nice and fun to be around. She has inspired me to be a great teacher like her. I look forward to them hugs, smiling faces and recognition from the kids.

Another reason I would like to be a teacher is that I like the lifestyle that a teacher lives. I love the be around children and to be a part of their maturation. Children are so precious and full of life. I have had the privilege to be a part of kids lives pretty much most of my life; from taking care of babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Church has given me the opportunity to enhance my skills and my desire to one day become a teacher. Kids are always there to bring a smile to your face when you are feeling down. I like the fact that working around children can keep you young at heart.

Becoming a successful teacher has been a desire in my heart for many years. As a high school student, I had the desire to enter the medical field. The turning point toward a teaching career occurred when I became employed with a small preschool as the three-year old toddler instructor. This job was extremely rewarding. It thrilled my heart to watch these small children grasp new concepts and develop throughout the year. The smiles on their faces when they learned to zip their coat, or say their ABC’s, or count to 100 was worth all the challenges you faced with a classroom of three-year old toddlers. Being able to see the glow on a child’s face when they succeed is indescribable and one of the reasons I want an education degree so that I can witness this experience daily.…

I've been a special education teacher for seven years. My first three years were spent working in a Title 1 school with some of the most economically disadvantaged children in our area. I call those my "Trial By Fire" years. Almost every child on my caseload had a heartbreaking story attached to their IEP. I cried a lot those years. I quit going to church because it was too hard for me to sit in the sanctuary full of upper middle class people that had no clue of the horrors I was seeing. That will be a good story for another post. It took quite a bit of prayer and soul searching to pull me out of the pit of that heartbreak. I now work 30 minutes away in one of the wealthier schools in my hometown, and guess what? The stories still…

My main reason for wanting to become a teacher is because I love children and I love working with them. Upon graduation from Boston College, I've had the opportunity of working in New York City public schools as a substitute teacher and at a privately owned nursery school in the Bronx as a part-time instructor. My experiences have been very rewarding thus far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. I can't even begin to describe the joyous feeling of knowing that I've touched the lives of the kids-- it is truly priceless. When kids pass tests, when kids say, "I get it," when kids come in and say, "Thanks. You're the best teacher I ever had," or "will we have you again" that means a lot. They make me laugh, they give me hugs, they cheer for my presence, they are observant, and most of them just need a little push. They give me nicknames, they miss me when I'm gone, they try so hard to do what I ask so much of the time. The most amazing feeling of all though is when the kids tell me they want to be just like me and teach just like me and are able to go in front of the class and teach others what I have just taught them. I have finally discovered what I am truly passionate about and am pursuing this passion by continuing my education so that I am able to fulfill my goal of being the best that anyone possible could be. This is what has driven me to want to go to Mercy and continue my education to become a teacher.…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…

I want to be an art teacher because I know I will love my job and because art can be very creative for the children. I want to make an impact in the life of the children. I want to be able to see the impact be put forth.
