Why I Select Kobe Bryant As My Idols
All my jokes about loving Kobe aside, I really admire the man. To me Kobe is more than a basketball player. Kobe Bryant is the first person I ever looked up to and probably the person who has had the greatest impact on me who i haven’t met in real life.
When I first watch NBA, the Lakers and Kobe was one of the first things I heard about. During that time I became a fan of Kobe Bryant. Watching what this man could do on the court had me in a state of pure joy and awe. To see this man fly at people and dunk on them while making shots that seemed impossible put the biggest smile on my face and to this day it still does.
Through all the things that happened in my life there was always one thing that I could count on. Watching Kobe play basketball was always my escape from the troubles that I was facing. Watching this man play basketball is one of the greatest joys of my life. He inspires me because his work ethic taught me that I should always try hard in whatever I do and if I don’t try then it’s not worth doing. Kobe was my first role model.
To see him still playing at such a high level is truly an honour and privilege. The way he can still be one of the top players in the world at his age is amazing and I cherish every game where I can watch him dominate the opposing team while making it look effortless. I don’t know what’s going to happen to the Lakers when Kobe leaves but for now I will enjoy watching every game that he plays.
Kobe Bryant is my idol. He always will be.

Following Michael Jordans footsteps again, Rose became the first NBA all-star on the Bulls since Jordan was named an all-star in 1998. Rose’s third season could be considered his most successful, one of his best games was on January 17 2011. I remember sitting upstairs at my house, wearing my cobalt blue Adidas DRose 2.5s, watching the Bulls play the Grizzlies. The whole game Derrick seemed to be controlling the court, he flew up and down the light colored hardwood finding many creative ways to put the little orange ball in the little orange hoop. Derrick finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his first triple double. I was amazed by his performance and began to watch as many Bull’s games as I could, just to see him play. After more great performances Rose lead his Bulls team to a 62-20 record and Derrick won the NBA’s most valuable player award. At age 22 Derrick Rose was the youngest person to ever be named the MVP of the league, breaking a 47 year old record. When he won the MVP he inspired me by the way he overcame a hard situation to become one of the greatest athletes in the NBA and he also made me believe that if I worked hard like he did I could accomplish my…

His mentality for greatness is off the charts and his passion for excellence is the passion that every player should have in the game or in any matter for that case. In his career, Kobe has an average of 83.8 percent from the free throw line, ahead of Jordan, and also a 34.1 percentage from beyond the three point line, which is also better than Michael Jordan's percentage (Drake Oz). A lot of people look at MVP awards and national championships to decide who is the best and things like that. Michael has 5 MVP titles while Kobe only has one, but they are overrated and misleading (Drake Oz). Kobe has had much better seasons than a lot of former winners of the MVP award. Example, in 2006, Steve Nash won the MVP of the league. Nash had a great year, but Kobe put up monstrous numbers and had a fantastic year with the Lakers. You cannot base the potential of greatness off of awards. Yes, they help your confidence and your reputation as a player in the league, but they do not define your greatness and ability that you may have to show. Michael has also won 6 championships and Kobe is only at five, but Kobe is most definitely not done playing either. The age-old argument against Kobe Bryant used to be that "he only won three titles because of Shaq. Well, fast forward to 2010, and Bryant has more titles (five) than Shaq (four) and was the star of those two teams while Shaq played second fiddle to Dwyane Wade. Not saying Bryant would have won all…
