Why Was The King Alfred Called The Great
Throughout the history of each country of the world, it is found heroes for the actions or decisions they took during difficult times in their nations. Some of them had won wars, had fought against invaders or just defended their people. In Mexico, for example, Benito Juarez became one of the truly great men for Mexicans, during his term as president; he successfully defended his nation against the French monarchist under Emperor Maximilian I. The same situation was in England with Alfred “The Great”, who became king in 871 until his death in 899. From the 16th century, The King Alfred was known as ‘The Great’ and it was no more than for defending his kingdom. For that reason and more, in the following lines, it will be described why he was called know by his sobriquet “The Great”.

Alfred had a strong belief in the importance of education.
