Why Was Johnny Tremain Wrong
“Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Johnny Tremain, a very talented young silver smith living in Boston, dreamed for years of being a master metal crafter. However, one fateful day, Johnny was at work crafting a beautiful piece of priceless china for the one and only John Hancock (the richest man in Boston). As Johnny was toiling away, he requested Dove, one of the assistants, to fetch a tool. As a cruel joke Dove pulled out one with a fractured handle. Inevitably, the piece snapped sending scorching molten silver onto Johnny’s hand, bequeathing it with a tremendous singe and intolerable pain. After much trauma and tears Mr. Lapham decided Johnny could not work at his shop, due to him having a disabled …show more content…
Lapham to let Johnny go for three reasons: he broke the contract dishonoring his word; he smothered Johnny’s dreams; and he neglected care of his hand. The first reason it was wrong of Mr. Lapham to let Johnny go is he broke the contract dishonoring his word. He broke the contract that he signed with Johnny’s mother, Mr. Lapham promised Mrs. Tremain Johnny would work for him for seven years, and he failed to honor his word. He not only failed to honor his word, but in doing so, he dishonored God. The second reason why it was wrong of Mr. Lapham to let Johnny go is because he smothered Johnny’s dreams. Johnny was extremely talented, extremely passionate, and extremely hopeful of becoming a master silversmith and owning his own shop. For so long Johnny had dreamt of owning his own silver smith shop. The third reason why it was wrong of Mr. Lapham to let Johnny go is that he neglected care of his hand. Later on Johnny ironically discovered a way his hand could be mended (Mr. Lapham could have easily figured a solution much earlier.) He also never attempted to aid Johnny in finding a new job or in learning how to survive on his own. Johnny had never lived life in the streets and never fully provided for

Throughout The secret lives of Sgt. John Wilson, the main character John is a very manipulative person. He lies to everyone around him to cover up previous lies that he’s told. John may not intentionally lie, but since he constantly lies it comes naturally to him. From the beginning of Wilsons first marriage to Polly, Polly’s family figures out what kind of man Wilson really is. Polly never caught on to Johns lying, “Polly’s family noticed Jack’s [John’s] tendency to lie when it suited his purposes, but Polly seemed oblivious to it” (8). Polly never realized that he constantly lied to her. Wilson left his family in Scotland, because he had stolen from his family. Polly was celebrating her sixth wedding anniversary without seeing her husband.…

As they had previously planned, Roy met up with Captain Stanley at a diner not usually frequented by firefighters. Both were more concerned than before as when the other crew members were asked how they thought Johnny did on his first day back, they all felt something was off. No one could really pinpoint what was different – just that Johnny seemed to distance himself from everyone and wasn’t quite the same person he was before going on disability leave. All wondered if it was due to being a victim of Chaotic Arsonist, as the media had dubbed the fire starter or something else. However, it almost seemed more than that, as if Johnny held some sort of secret.…

He always talks about how the klan is very holy even though they are not. “the gathering prayed with me, neighbor, in the summer morning with the bees humming in the clover. they prayed with me as i declared the klan a movement of god” (Witness page 70). Johnny and Linda are also very much like Thoreau also. They live life by themselves and not how everyone wants them to. Thoreau one said " Do not hire a man who does your work for money, but him who does it for love of it." This goes along with Johnny because he never once cared about the money, he just wanted to do something that he loved doing and make a living out of it. Unlike Mr. Seaton whom it didn't matter how much he hated what he was doing, if he was making a lot of money he stuck with…

Jack’s feelings for Lucy definitely have some issues. Jack walks in to his family’s house where this woman, who he has never met before, is sleeping on the couch. He is suspicious about this girl Lucy and is told she is his brother’s fiancée who he has never heard of. The fact that his only brother hasn’t announced his engagement is very suspicious to him. His initial perception of her “sneaking” out of the house has alarmed him and he assumes that her actions are “fishy”. He comes to her apartment to seek her out and try to obtain more information about this girl, Lucy, but his first encounter at her apartment building is with Joe Junior, who exaggerates and boldly lies in order to feel good or proud. When Jack asks him about Lucy he says that he is “dating” her. As our text on page 26 says, “Perceivers tend to make the pieces fit”, Jack thinks that this statement from Junior is correct because he is automatically “trying to make the pieces fit” into his suspicions or assumptions that he has already made about Lucy. Jack continues on to follow Lucy around and tailors his conversation to fit his perceptions. He asks questions trying to put the puzzle together and prove that she is a liar.…
