Football, as well as rugby and soccer, is believed to have originated from an ancient Greek game known as Harpaston. Harpaston is mentioned quite frequently throughout classical literature, in which it is referred to as a “very rough and brutal” game. The rules of this ancient sport were simple: a team would be awarded points when a player would move the ball across the opposing team’s goal line by either kicking the ball, running with it across the goal line, or throwing it across the line to another player. The only objective of the other team was to stop the ball from crossing their line, by whatever means possible. There was no specific field length, no side line boundaries, no specified number of…

Now that you have an idea of the rules of professional soccer, I will continue to explain the popularity and passion of the game. Soccer is very widely played all over the world. The most prestigious international soccer competition is that of the world cup, held every four years, it lasts about a month, the most recent one being held in South Africa world cup 2010. With more than a billion viewers a day and tuned in to approximately 30 billion times, it is more popular than the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Masters, and the NBA finals. One reason many researchers believe it is so popular, especially in third world countries is because of the lack of things needed in order to play. All you need is a goal and a ball. Soccer is so much a part of so many people’s everyday lives.…

I come from a simple and humble family that had to work very hard to survive and progress in the united states. At a young age I remember losing my father from an unexplicable disease that not even the best doctor in the US were able to figure out. Even though this devastated my entire family my mom never putted her head down and played both roles at home. It was difficult to get over It, but I was able to refuge myself on the soccer fields and get away from the streets ,alcohol, and drugs something that any other kid at age of twelve would have done in those days. Soccer has helped me to make friends everywhere, win many championships, and push myself to my limits to get better at it. My father always wanted me to play soccer and be part of a important team.…

I remember when I was five, I would always attend my step sister’s soccer games during the weekend while at my dad’s. I would always love to watch but I was more of a hands on person. I have always wanted to play soccer but unfortunately it was harder to do for a kid, like me, when I had divorced parents that lived 40 minutes away from each other. It was so hard because usually when it came to soccer, the games would be during the weekend and practices would be a few days during the week. Finally, after my sophomore year I decided to try again and play for my school.…

Sports are a very popular topic amongst many people across the globe. Many people find a passion to participate or follow in the sport that calls their attention. I can still remember I grew up practicing to tie my shoes. Whether it be basketball sneakers, baseball cleats or fútbol cleats. I have always been interested in a variety of sporting events. If I was asked to say which sport I would favor, I can say that soccer is a sport that grasps my interest. That made me to think about which sport is the one that is the most popular amongst the world. If you were to ask Americans, typically they might believe that American Football is the sport sits on top of gaining the most popularity. Whether that might be true in the United States it would be a completely false assumption to believe it is the most popular sport in the world. It leads to question if soccer is the most popular sport in the world? Why do most of the people follow soccer more than any other sport? In 2006, the World Cup was the most watched sporting event in the world. It was estimated that one out of two people were most likely to direct their attention toward soccer and catch a glimpse of the World Cup (Miller, 2010). Why is it that soccer overcomes its popularity between other well-known sporting events such as basketball or baseball?…
