Why Should You Learn English
Why SHOULD YOU learn English? Good question. I believe everyone should learn the English language for the following reasons.

Distribution

English is the most widely spoken language in the world based on the distribution of native speakers. * There are over 400 million native English speakers worldwide. * There are over 500 million speakers of English as a second or foreign language.
900 million people using English, out of a total world population of about 6.7 billion people, is only 15% of the total population. Then why is English so important? The importance of English is not in the number of speakers, but what English is used for.

Communication, Friends * English is the main language in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. * In many countries, English is widely used, particularly among people who have no other language in common, even though English is not the main language of the country. For example, English is widely used in Hong Kong, Singapore, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Malaysia. In these countries, it is often used as a means of communication between people who use different dialects of their native languages. * English is studied as a foreign language in countries even though it is not used as a means of communication. * In China, English language lessons are popular. Two hundred fifty million Chinese, are learning English on TV. * English is the most commonly taught foreign language. * Now online communities like My Space, YouTube, etc., offer people a way to make friends around the world and practice speaking English.
News, Information * English is the main language of news and information in the world. * English is the language used in business and government even in countries where it is not the main language. * 75% of all telex messages and telegrams are sent in English. * 80% of computer data is processed and stored in English. * Most

English had started to be known as a lingua franca around the period of World War II. After reading the English Effect report by the British council written by Howson (2013) it can be estimated that approximately 1.75 billion people use English worldwide, in other words, approximately one in four people speak English at a “useful level”. The main people who are learning and speaking English are “the economically active, the thought leaders, the business decision-makers, the young, the movers and shakers present and future” (Howson, 2013). There are more non-native speakers of English than there are native speakers therefore it can be said that English…

The fact of the increasing number of English speaker, as the result of its spread and diffusion has undeniably brought English becoming a global language. However, the huge number of speaker and wide spread area is not the most significant factor that makes a language become a global language. Crystal points out that global status is achieved when a language plays an important role in several country (David, 2003). For English, this evident is obviously seen in the term of its use as the first language in several country such as in USA, Canada, Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa where English is used as a means of communication in the whole aspect of social life. However, not only limited in those country English is also spoken as the second language, as a complement to the mother tongue, yet it plays role as an official language. In other country, where English is not mother tongue nor an official…

Approximately 375 million people speak English as their first language. English today is probably the third largest language by number of native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. However, when combining native and non-native speakers it is probably the most commonly spoken language in the world, though possibly second to a combination of the Chinese languages (depending on whether or not distinctions in the latter are classified as "languages" or "dialects"). Countries such as the Philippines, Jamaica and Nigeria also have millions of native speakers of dialect continua ranging from an English-based creole to a more standard version of English.…

At the moment, about 2.000 million people speak Chinese as their mother tongue, whereas about 450 million speak English. As follow this criterion, Chinese must be the world’s global tongue. However, people all over the world like to use English as the second language rather than Chinese and currently English is becoming more and more popular as the international language. In my point of view, I agree with this opinion by numerous reasons.…
