Why Religion Should Be Taught In Schools
ek when religion class started. This eventually led to Wertheimer being bullied by her classmates just because she was Jewish. Wertheimer’s story is not a secluded incident; there are millions of students who have been bullied because of their beliefs and the ignorance of others.
By teaching all of the major world religions to a group as a whole, this presents a prime factor to prevent these kinds of incidents. Wertheimer was ridiculed and bullied because of the school teaching one religion to the students. If situations like this were common today, then it would be easier to comprehend why teachers want to shy away from religion. However, the more teachers shy away from teaching religion, the more these students become ignorant of others beliefs. Wertheimer states, ¨I didn’t see teachers trying to preach Christianity - or any - faith. I saw educators trying to provide kids with facts about the histories and practices of world religions...¨(Public) Seeing that teachers can handle educating students about religion without a bias towards their own is an amazing thing and a step forward with the problem religious education has created. …show more content…

The children of tomorrow also need to know about religion to help them understand why Islam believers take a pilgrimage to Mecca and why they fast in Ramadan.
