Why Is Walt Disney A Hero
Emma Showalter introducing facts about Walt Disney. Walt Disney is a hero because of his success, determination, and respect. The next few paragraphs will show you why. But first are some fast facts.Walt was born in Chicago on December 5 1901. He grew up on a farm. He was the 4th of 5 children. Has won 22 academy awards during his life. He was renamed Walter Elias. He was an entrepreneur. Walt sadly passed on December 15, 1966 from lung cancer. One trait that describes him is the respect he has/he gives to people. At age 16 he tried to join the air force but they denied him because he was so young. Then he tried for the army and they let him join. After this he joined Red Cross and drove ambulance. In 1929 disney created silly symphonies, which featured Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto. A popular cartoon was Flowers and Trees it was the first to be produced in color and to win an oscar. In 1933 the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf came out It became the theme for the year and country. On December 21 1937 Snow White and the 7 dwarfs the first full length animated film, premiered in Los Angele. It produced unimaginable $1.499 million and won a total of 80 oscars. Disney’s $17 million Disneyland theme park opened on july 17, 1955 in Anaheim, California. At only age 7 he sold his first drawing. Became the most innovative Producer and showmen of the 21st century. He created the first sound cartoon with a feature for more than 50 years. For instance he would get up at 3:30am everyday to deliver paper to 2,000 people. He only got $3 a week. Also no one liked his stuff but he kept trying and trying and finally got an offer for $1,500. Before that he was broke. In 1950 Walt moved to a 1 bedroom apartment because he had lung cancer. He suffered for 2,000 people a day and only got 3 dollars a week. Everyday he went to the jelly factory and took classes. Even when he was young(a child) he drew pictures and sold them. When he was little he fell in love with trains. After school he would go take art classes. Then he joined Red Cross and drove ambulances. When he came back from France (driving ambulance) he continued to draw cartoons for the newspaper. When he left for california he had less than $100 in his pocket. In the 1940’s Disney opened a new studio in Burbank. And replaced a new session of animated classics. In 1950 Disney released its first live action film and T.V. special every film he did had something new and
