Why Is Snowboarding Better Than Skiing
Skiing or Snowboarding? It is a commonly debated question. Everyone has their different opinions on this matter, but mine is that snowboarding will always be the best. Because it’s easy to learn, how it’s more convenient, you look cool while doing it, and fewer injuries are some of the reasons I think that snowboarding will always come first. The first reason is that it is all I am acquainted with. It was hard to learn at first, but once I got the hang of things I was ripping it up like a professional. Learning how to snowboard is a time-consuming and bruising process. It's all a matter of education, and there are now special signs on the slopes in Austria, bearing the slogan: "It's not cool to kill friends.” (Bell) Skiers often make fun of us snowboarders for our strange habit of sitting down, but what they don’t understand is the reasons why. One of the many reasons is snowboarding is a better workout than skiing is. “When a snowboarder points the nose of his board across the fall line instead of straight downhill, he is now positioned in such a manner that to keep from sliding down the hill. He has to be in some more-or-less squatting position which exerts a lot of pressure on the quadriceps if facing downhill (or the calves if facing uphill).” (Zemens) “It’s not because we actually need to, we just like the rest. If we snowboarders wanted to, we could easily strap in quickly and get on our way. The truth is we quite like the social chat while we eye up a jump or route.” (Duncombe) Although we do apologize for leaving the chairs in the lodge wet with our waterlogged butts.
