Why Is John Muir Still Important?
Earth day is a day where people appreciate and demonstrate support the environments protection. Such as natures beauty. Earth day is celebrated every year on April 22nd. Thanks to many people who have inspired the world this day was created. Such as John Muir, Jane Goodall and Rachel Carson.
Based on the article named, Is Conservationist Muir Still Important?” written by Los Angeles Times in Newsela, John Muir was a large figure who helped establish the national park system through his writings through solo hikes in California. He as known as the godfather of environmentalism. Since he was the first president of the Sierra Club, he shaped ideas about how wilderness should be thought of, protected and managed. According to an article called, “Inventors and Scientists: Jane Goodall,” written by Cynthia Stokes Brown, Jane Goodall was amazed by animals since she was young. Since she had a liking for animals, in 1950 she met Louis Leakey who was famous for seeking hominin bones. After all, he hired her. As her job she observed how chimpanzees behaved and survived out in nature. This led her to notice how chimpanzees act very similar to humans. In 1986 she wrote her definitive scientific work, The Chimpanzees of Gombe: Patterns of Behavior. This book described how chimpanzees had both and good actions. in 1976 she founded the Jane Goodall Institute. This foundation supported research and efforts to protect chimpanzees and their habitats. Also out of a meeting that she had with 16 teens, she organized Roots and Shoots. This organization is a global youth program that now has more than 100 groups in the countries. But ever since there has been complaints that the Theodore Roosevelt Park has heavy pollution. This worried many people since this national park was very important to Theodore. As a resolution 95 percent of the Americans support the protection of national parks besides the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Also polls shows that the majority of voters would be unhappy of the lawmakers elected stopped protecting public land. Besides polls, the Congress has founded the NPS. The NPS has tried to raise money from private donations but it has been hard. The NPS is working hard and hoping to be more clear about the benefits of national parks. Another article named “Artist: Ansel Adams,” was about a photographer which with his camera lens saw more than the beauty of the trees, rocks and rivers of Yosemite National Park. He saw art. His digital photography inspired many by seeing natures beauty. Also his photography led to political meaning. He sought to make KIng Canyon a national park in 1936. His photographs were used for congressional discussions. In 1980, Adam received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In honor of him, south of Yosemite National Park and a peak on the end of Yosemite was named after him, Mount Ansel
