Why Is Freedom Of Speech Important?
Freedom of speech, in my opinion, is being limited. It shouldn’t though. To have the freedom to speak our minds is what very little countries have. We, as Americans, are lucky to be one of the few to have that right. It shows where people stand on a two-sided argument or just a debut. It is also protected by the First Amendment under the words of - ‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.’ The Freedom to speak has been going on for over two hundred years, so why stop now? Is it really worth it though? Most Americans think we should censor what we say. Sometimes, if we don’t censor our words it could lead to a fight. Some of them thinks that it could ease peace into our’s and others countries. That could be true, but it could also not. If all we think about is peace, what’s going to happen to it when something goes wrong? Like, what about the chance of riots when and if Freedom of Speech isn’t so free? With all the riots going around now, it wouldn’t be surprising.

Especially children, teens, and young adults. Why do they get offended that easily? No one will really ever know. But, they just do. Apparently, some people says that’s why we should censor what we say. Because someone could get offended. But here is the truth to something I learned awhile back. Someone is always going to be offended, no matter what you say. You state your opinion, you offend someone. If you go around and tell someone a joke, it might end of offending someone else. Even if you don’t mean it or realize it, you do it. It’s just the matter if you are strong enough to look past
