I want to participate in this REU, because I want to have a more diverse research experience. My goal after graduation is get into an MD-PhD program, and this opportunity will make me a better candidate and allow me to focus my research interests. I believed my analytical and technical skills will be significantly amplified if I participate in this program. Not only will I gain more research experience, but it will allow me to see more of this country and allow me to meet more diverse people. This will allow me to gain valuable real world experience that can prepare me for the many years of MD- PhD studies.     As a LPN I’ve experienced a lot of different things throughout my career. I am often asked the question of, “Why are you in nursing?” I tell people that I didn’t choose nursing, nursing chose me! I enjoy being a nurse. The rewards are endless. I am searching for further advances within this career. This is why I chose to continue my education with Lincoln Technical Institute. Moving forward with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing will enhance potential advances. I want to really be the person that provides good care for people when they are ill. My ultimate goal is to become an ARNP at some point. With my ARNP I plan to open a public clinic to provide health care to those who are financially challenged. Essentially my passion that I possess as a nurse professional places me in a position to not want to see anyone go without health care. In some instances the resident or resident’s family could not afford the monthly living expenses it took to reside at the community in which I managed.     In 2007 my life changed forever when I was hospitalized for appendicitis and had to have my appendix removed. I was then notified of something beyond that, which we change my life forever. The doctors diagnosed me with Crohns disease. I had never heard of it before and when the doctor explained the disease to me, I became very depressed.     Each individual has his own reason for pursuing a graduate degree. Professionally, a graduate degree shows that the person has the motivation, ambition, and dedication to improve and thus strive to obtain a position in which he/she can apply and expand his knowledge base. Many perceive a graduate degree as a status symbol, an opportunity for advancement, or even a cause for more money. The choice to seek additional education after investing four years in an undergraduate degree shows commitment to learning and recognition of self-worth.
