Why I Love Soccer
If you know me, you know I love soccer. I love soccer because soccer is where I am comfortable. I am comfortable in my favorite pair of cleats, when playing on my home field on Bell Road, and when I’m with my team. Although I love the feeling of comfort, the only thing I would choose over it is the feeling of discomfort. That gut wrenching feeling when you take a step out of your comfort zone, that moment when you are trying something for the first time, and you are not sure on how it will turn out. Thus, if I’m not playing soccer, I’m most likely trying something new. Whether it’s with my friends on the weekend, or by myself on an adventure, I believe that life is truly more exotic when you are trying new things and that the most memorable experiences in life occur when you are …show more content…
I had never competitively played bowling before, and I wasn’t even that good when playing my friends and family, so why would I be good on a High School team? These doubts squandered my brain all day. The uncertainty of the sport excited me, I had absolutely no idea if I would like anyone on the team or be any good, and I had to find out. Now you are probably expecting for me to go on about how I made seven strikes the first day of tryouts and that meet my closest friends that day, but in reality, almost every ball I played was a gutter, and I haven’t talked to any of the teammates since. After tryouts that day I returned my rented shoes and rather than murmuring on how I wasted my time, I was relieved. I was relieved because although I truly did suck at the sport and didn’t mix with the other players, I will never wonder if I would be any good. Although it took everything for me to step into the bowling alley that day, and although I was the worst one there, I am content today knowing that I could never be a state bowling player. I would take being the worst bowling player over wondering how good I am any day, wouldn’t

The basketball dynasty was coming to an end as I had lost a lot of athleticism. I was always on the middle team, not very good, not very bad, but I always tried new moves; which made me hard to guard. I finally quit all sports because my back couldn’t handle the stress, and I wasn’t prepared to go into surgery. One day as I was watching…

Laurel high school has been the most glamorous of places to play baseball. The grass was scarce, dominated from large patches of dirt scattered across the outfield. Our batting cage left untouched for months at a time, creating a chest high jungle of weeds that consumed you as you entered. There were no perks of playing for the baseball program. The athletic director ignored us, the students didn’t support us, and the School wouldn’t adequately fund us. All we had were ourselves and an insatiable drive to succeed. I entered my freshman year out of shape, and with little baseball talent at all. I arrived at tryouts as an underdog, but I didn’t let that deter me. After three days of intense tryouts, I was named as a member of the junior varsity team. Unfortunately, The season didn’t go…

There are over seven billion people on this Earth, so what is it that makes me so different? I wear Nike, I drive a car, I play video games, I have chores, and could be considered a pretty normal person. I love, I laugh, I get angry, and I have emotions just like every other human being. The one thing I heavily identify with is football. For as long as I can remember I’ve played ball, and made some great friends along the way. The picture in the top left is a great representation of this. Football has taught me lessons of leadership, perseverance, toughness, how to deal with the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows. (Bottom left: aftermath of beating Staley) Above all else, the best thing it has taught me was loyalty. Not only loyalty to a cause, but loyalty to my brothers, and ultimately my family. Football has created a foundation for my character, and without it I am certain I would not be the same person I am today.…

My life has revolved around soccer since I was four years old. My whole family was born into the sport and I’m so thankful that I have the support from my family and friends to continue to follow my dream in playing college soccer. I believe my life would not be the same without participating in the sport I love and playing with the people I grew up with. I wouldn’t have met half the people I know now. All my teammate’s families that treat me like their family would have been just imaginary. I wouldn’t have a second family to fall back on when I need. Soccer had made me for who I am. I have always wanted to play soccer but unfortunately it was harder to do for a kid, like me, when I had divorced parents that lived 40 minutes away from each other. It was so hard because usually when it came to soccer, the games would be during the weekend and practices would be a few days during the week.
