Why I Chose College Application
Growing up in a small town, I was always looking for different activities and adventure to push myself further as a person. I have always had a fascination with bigger cities and experiences, unlike the small amount I could find in my hometown. Truthfully, I have not strayed far from my town. In search of the next step in my education, I tend to look toward bigger campuses; campuses that have a reputation for themselves. Most importantly, I’ve been searching for a college that would give me the biggest chance of opportunity. The University of Madison captivates to me due to its: location, amount of activities, and most importantly the pride that comes with being a Wisconsin Badger.

Being in such a large area, I would have a better chance in finding internships that interest me and motivate me to find a career. Other opportunities I would take advantage of are the large amount of research resources; including the large library, mentor programs, and lab research. Also, UW-Madison offers the opportunity to travel abroad. If given the chance, I would consider returning to France to study the culture in depth. Another opportunity that would arise from Madison is the vast variety of recreational sports and community involvement. By taking part in volunteer efforts within the community this would help emphasize the pride that comes from being a Wisconsin Badger.
In Madison, there is often a higher sense of accomplishment. UW-Madison chooses those who have completed their high school careers with rigorous courses. In addition, those who are accepted often times show strong GPAs and have taken a multitude of AP classes/college preparatory classes, like myself. Due to this higher expectation, becoming a badger fascinates me in the sense of pride in order to showcase my

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Orlando campus shows a high level of planning. The student union is at the center of campus and is encircled by two rings that contain the main academic and administrative buildings. Housing, sports fields, and stadiums abut the periphery of the rings (“UCF,” n.d.). The campus of the University of Wisconsin at Madison (UW) sprawls along Lake Mendota and is integrated into the grid-like street system of Madison. Most of the dormitories and sports complexes are on the fringes of campus (“University,” n.d.). The University of Maryland (UMD) campus lacks the appearance of planning that is more apparent at UCF or UW and is compressed by two major roads on the east and west, forcing the campus to spread north and south. A large mall occupies the center…

To illustrate this, the film Ivory Tower showed the Recreation and Wellness Center on the campus of Auburn University, the rock climbing wall in the Student Wellness Center on the University of North Dakota’s campus, the $38.9 million dollar Recreation Center at the University of Missouri, Portland State University’s student recreation center, the University of Minnesota’s football stadium, and the $300 million MIT STATA CENTER. This scene shows that colleges are building amenities to sell their school to prospective students. The amenities can attract more out-of-state students which increases revenue, enrollment, and reputation while providing a more…

As a child I grew up in Hartland, Wisconsin and went to a high school that revolved around football. Every time I drove down I-94 with my parents and saw a couple of the Marquette buildings I remember saying, “I’m never going to go there.” I had my mind set on UW- Madison or any large school away from my hometown with a…

I considered this collage due to their high enrollment numbers of 500 per year and the room and board are absolutely beautiful and not too expensive at the price of 39,000 per year and that’s very important to me. This collage offers 10 different degrees in each course you take! That is amazing, you can take two different courses and still graduate on time, you can still major in each of those fields as well. The part that really jumped out at me was the extra curriculums such as, power sport engine testing, test driving, electrical engineering, and lunch of your choice at your choice of…

Marquette is ranked No. 63 by high school and private independent school guidance counselors in 2012. It’s located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Marquette is known for its outstanding academics, and varying majors. Additionally, Marquette is a Catholic Jesuit college, which means there are a lot of spiritual bases in finding God in everything that is done. This means in education we can find some inspiration to do better and be better, no matter what is one’s faith or traditions; the common ground for almost everything is education and its importance. With a degree from Marquette comes a lot of bragging rights, and is highly looked upon. When applying for a job Marquette stands out on a resume over most universities and colleges. Marquette is one the best universities offered in Wisconsin besides UW Madison. I believe I would like to further my first class education with Marquette because of great programs offered and the greater spiritual background received with a degree.…

My first few weeks of classes at UW-Platteville have surprisingly been fun and brought many opportunities of clubs I did not think I would join. When I imagined going to college for the first time, I thought I would cry and be homesick. To not be homesick I told myself to be involved with the Welcome Weekend activities and it worked! My classes were intimidating on the first day, but now that we have had many classes I am comfortable. I am using my time management skills everyday because I have many meetings to attend. Overall, I am glad I choose to continue my education at UW-Platteville because it feels like home.…

Colossal, brick structures loom above me. Warm, sunny weather shines down on the hairs of my skin. The smell of freshly cut green grass fills the air.. From Nashville, Tennessee to Atlanta, Georgia, two highly respected colleges sit at the corner of academic excellence and social experience. Both universities provide the opportunity for success for anyone who attends. The choice between Vanderbilt University and Emory University is an extremely difficult one. Based on my research, Vanderbilt University and Emory University are both acceptable options of schools to consider because of their excellent major options, rigorous academics, and a strong social aspect outside the classroom.…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…

In the end, I settled on Macalester College, a small liberal-arts school in Minnesota with a strong emphasis on internationalism and social action. It is certainly more mainstream than most of the schools that began my college search, but it is also intimate enough that I wouldn’t be able to slip through many cracks; it is located in a sizable metropolitan area where my learning would not be defined exclusively by campus boundaries; it is a place where hard questions are encouraged and expected; and its classes and dorms are well-represented by a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. In hindsight, it was as good of a choice as any I could have made.…

I have loved statistics all my life. Wisconsin’s numbers were impressive. So, I decided to look into Wisconsin’s academics. The Wisconsin School of Business is extremely impressive. When I was scrolling the school’s website, I focused in on the internship section. BuckyNet is clearly a useful tool that has provided many Wisconsin students with exceptional internships. Gaining a valuable internship will be my top priority when I go to college -- I have learned just as much outside of the classroom as I have inside. Overall, Wisconsin definitely has the tools I need to go out and find a beneficial internship. Not only does Wisconsin have the tools I need for obtaining my internship, I learn much more effectively in smaller environments, so the…
