Therefore, the author wants to stress that Chiquita in its accomplice role is nothing less blameworthy than the AUC for the mass killings of Colombian civilians. The plaintiffs are survivors of the by AUC targeted groups claiming their rights under the ATCA. The reason why the US Court is dealing with this international case is founded on the fact that Chiquita is based in the US, because crimes against humanity (alike genocide) is an atrocity crime of jus cogens character, and due to the touch and concern with reference to the case of Kiobel.…

There are a vast majority of accounts to show that economic status does not always directly lead to engagement or non engagement in terrorism. “It is possible, for example, that well-educated individuals will disproportionately participate in terrorist groups if they think that they will assume leadership positions if they succeed, or if they identify more strongly with the goals of the terrorist organization than less-educated individuals.” “Alan B. Krueger and Jitka Maleckova” Does Poverty Cause Terrorism?, June 23 2002. A relevant case pertaining to this subject is the San Bernardino shooting, the people who carried out this crime were middle class, and further brings to question how related poverty is to substantial acts of violence. There is no distinct correlation between poverty and terrorism, which has come to be shown multiple times through case studies of different areas of the…

By examining the events of each case study in detail we hope to find the motivation of terrorists, and to gain insight into what the events in which they played a part might teach us about how terrorism is evolving. Let’s begin our analysis by looking at the group known as the Tupamaros of Uruguay. Beginning during the early 1960s, this group emerged after a time period in which Uruguay had enjoyed a period of economic prosperity and growth during the first half of the 20th century due to the export of mainly agricultural goods. Following this time period the economy began to struggle, requiring its government to reduce spending. This was met with difficulty due to a largely deadlocked two party system of “Blancos” and “Colorados”. The public failure of these two political parties to find a solution to Uruguay’s problems cast a shadow of doubt on the political model of Uruguay and resulted in a…

Proponents of cannabis tout the plant’s healing properties, while detractors claim that the plant remains a highly dangerous drug. Likewise, public opinion is split as to whether dispensaries are a positive or a negative influence to their communities.
