Why Do We Have Longer Recess
In my opinion, recess will continue to be a serious problem until/unless we have longer recess.
I want longer recess. It helps us focus during class. we need longer recess or we can’t focus during class. We need to get all our energy out. Playing helps develop physical skills. We need 20 minutes of recess. Were stuck in a room for about 6 hours almost every day.
Longer recess helps with better classroom behavior. I want longer recess so we can focus better in school.

Recess to me means taking a “break” from doing something or taking your mind “off “of something. Many Americans feel as if it shouldn’t be implemented in the school schedule because they are not thinking of the importance of the physical activity that the child is getting during this period of time. Nearly 18% of children age 6-11 are obese in America could, it is because they lack physical activity. Physical activity is important for all people to stay healthy and active. Physical activity has a huge affect during the early childhood phases, because the children are developing still and they need to work the junk food off that they ate at lunch during recess. One way for children to achieve physical activity is through school recess.…

My school (Dinwiddie Middle school) starts first period at 7:35 and we get out at 2:30. Some school far away from DMS start a hour later, so then they’ll get out later. Which means they’ll get home a little before dinner. Then, they won’t have time to play outside because the’ll be to busy doing homework, getting ready for bed, and they may even have to help their parent/guardian fix dinner. When I get home I ride my bike, shoot basketball, jump on the trampoline, or do my homework.…

Recess is a time in which every child in America experienced and enjoyed at one point in their lifetime. Look back to your own childhood: how important was recess and play time to you? Banning recess in elementary schools has been an important topic of debate for most school districts around the country. As stated by the Official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines recess as ‘regularly scheduled periods within the elementary school day for unstructured physical activity and play’” (Murray and Ramstetter 183). Almost half of all school districts have shifted…

“School should be about learning, not sports”. Kids now a days love to play sports, but don’t like to learn. Learning, and get an education this is a very important thing in life you need it to have a good job so that you can have a family and support them. So I feel in school you must have good grades in order to play any type of sport, and if you do not then you should not be playing. A couple reasons I feel like this is for starters kids pay more attention to sports then they do in class. This is not how this should be. Kids should love to learn something new every day at school, but in some school that’s not the case. Kids need to learn.…

Many elementary schools have reduced or eliminated recess during the school day in an attempt to improve test scores. That has been especially true since the No Child Left Behind Act introduced in 2001. In order to allow for more instruction time for achievement standards to be met, more time was spent in the classroom resulting in something having to be cut out of the school day. In most cases, that is recess. However, doing so has not had the desired results and children have been losing out on very important aspects of their development. Having recess is vital to the development of children because it helps them to perform better academically in school, it gives them the opportunity to learn the social skills needed throughout life, and it improves their physical well-being.…

With all the work kids forget about outside and will get caught up in a hot new game or product. With recess not being provided students should get the option to play a sport or do gym all school year. Some middle schools should invest their time in making a new schedule. The schedule should start school a little bit earlier so there is time to fit in a gym class (“Pros and cons of middle school sports”). If a school does not have year round gym classes or recess students might not have anything else to do besides homework.…

Where were most of your memories made in elementary school? Ask almost anyone, and their answer will be, “On the playground during recess!” Unfortunately, the youth of today may not have the opportunity to make those memories. As a result of the No Child Left Behind Act, more than forty percent of schools have reduced recess time, while seven percent have completely eliminated it from the school day (Pappas, 2011). With physical education only being offered to elementary students once a week, typically for forty minutes or less, recess is more important now than ever before. The absence of recess in schools will result…

All of these are benefits that are because of recess. The first benefit is that learning to much at once can cause a brain overload. In the article title titled ¨Do you need recess?¨ Written by Mackenzie Carro it states ¨Moving from subject to subject without a break can overwhelm your brain and make it more difficult to retain new information¨. Giving kids all these different things to learn and stuffing it into their brain without a break can really hurt the child, and just make them stressed and then they will end up only picking up half of lesson that the teacher is trying to teach them. In google, facebook and other big companies the workers get breaks with lego stations or play with karaoke machines.…

Our children are so important and the idea that our schools don’t see that is a scary thought. Recess has been a way to allow our kids to connect with others socially, build new bonds through similar interest, exercise, and refresh after sitting in a stuffy classroom for so long. Students need recess because just like our muscles need rest time to build after a workout, so do our brains. If we are constantly cramming information in, our brain will become over worked and we will start to experience major health problems in our kids. It is even worse now a day because we have technology to battle with. Students are learning that play time is on an IPad or cell phone. They are losing a very valuable and influential time in their lives.…

Don’t have recess for middle school students because they need to worry about their school work. If you let them have recess that is what they will be waiting for just like how we wait for the end of the day so that we could go home or when we wait for lunch. Yes it is good exercise but students need to stay focused on their work.…

Did you know that recess helps students in school? Well, it's true! Although some parents think that recess just makes kids misbehave and fool around which is possible, most of the time recess has a very positive impact on students. I think that we should have a longer recess because students listen better after recess if they exercise more, because kids learn negotiation skills, exercise leadership, take turns, and learn to resolve conflict at recess and because recess has an good effect on academic performance.…
