Why Do Today What Can Be Put Off Until Tomorrow
Why Do Today What Can Be Put Off Until Tomorrow
There are countless ways a student can avoid success in life, but one of the main behaviors which can cause an individual to fail is procrastination. When students have to complete a task or a big project many of them confuse their priorities, and find themselves waiting until the last minute to finish the task at hand. Another cause for procrastination could be the lack of initiative the student might have in completing an assignment. Or simply some students may fear failure, and may not have full confidence in themselves in order to do the assignment. Procrastination may seem like an easy way out in beginning, but if it’s not address it turns into a huge obstacle of unnecessary stress at the end.
The inability for a student to prioritize what is important and what is not, is one of the most common reasons why a student chooses to put off their work. When an assignment seems difficult a student may begin to start thinking of different ways to avoid the work altogether. They may also begin to work on an assignment and feel as if they worked too hard and decide to take a break, forgetting about the work altogether. Consequently they become accustomed to the instant satisfaction of taking a break that it becomes another motive for putting off the work. As the student realizes that the due date draws near a sense of panic overcomes them, which temps them into giving up completely.
Another reason why a student may choose to procrastinate may be the lack of initiative to complete the task presented to them. The student may go over the task and find it boring or not challenging enough to hold their interest. This mentality can hinder the ability for a person to concentrate in their task. Also others may find false security in thinking that they can do the task tomorrow; as a result the person puts off doing the work until the night before the due date. This causes them to work under stress through long hours of the night

The art of procrastination has troubled high school kids for quite some time now. Im sitting here typing my own essay at the eleventh hour, hoping that as the deadline approaches I can piece together an essay to save my grade. “Procrastination is for the efficient at heart”, this quote captures the procrastinators only strength: the ability to make the most out of the time they have. Most students will crack as the pressure of meeting the deadline with quality work overbears them, as they regretfully wish they spent their time wiser. Few will rise up to the challenge and meet the standards, but what separates the students who succeed and those who miserably fail?…

The assignments I feel students procrastinate on more would be writing an essay and submitting class discussions. Essays usually have to be longer than one page of writing so most students think “I will do this on Friday or Saturday. It won’t take me long.” Then it ends up not getting done on time because the essay has required a lot more research than the student was prepared for. Students procrastinate on class discussions usually because we all have to reply to other students and carry a conversation so the student will wait until last minute to turn the discussion in so that they don’t have to carry a conversation back and forth.…

Berkman, a Psychologist wrote about various problems we procrastinate. One that caught my attention was that it’s a choice whether to complete an assignment, do something fun or simply nothing. He quotes “When the value of something else outweighs the value of working now.” More clearly students don’t see the value of their homework any better than going out to a party and having fun so they leave homework undone and so something more pleasurable.…

“There's nothing wrong with procrastination. Or is there? I'll leave it to you to decide, but only if you have the time.”- Craig Brown. Procrastinating plays a role in someone’s life. It is something that we all as humans try to overcome, but in reality, it is something that will impact us in some way, at any cost. Procrastination has become such a bad habit for me. It is hard for me to stop procrastinating. I believe I do my best writing at the last minute. I usually wait until the night before to do most of it. I am usually up late the night before the paper is due. Having things due dates has kept me on task, and keeps me from procrastinating until the day before the paper is due. There was one paper which we had to get sources for a while before the paper was due and it forced me to keep up with the paper, rather than let it go to the last minute. This class has taught me that the earlier you start the more positive your result will be. That was my mistake with the argumentative paper.…

While homework helps students practice, it also helps them learn to take responsibility and use their time wisely. Some parents say their children are stressed and are not getting enough sleep, because of the huge piles of homework. However, homework is designed to help students to use their time wisely and efficiently. In an average classroom, students tend to not do their homework until the last moment, which in other terms is called procrastination. College is difficult, it demands a lot of your time, and attention. Have you ever said the words,” I will do it later”? We are all procrastinators in some way or another; the difference is some people stick to their deadlines (with the proneness to misjudge the amount of time it takes to finish). According to Center for Student Excellence (CSE) advisors many college students find themselves waiting until the last minute to study or complete assignments, and students often find themselves procrastinating due to their newfound independence, a multitude of distractions and a lack of motivation (Patrick, 2014). One explanation for procrastination is that it is a choice. We have a choice to complete a task now instead of later. Another explanation is that it is a way to deal with anxiety, boredom, guilt, frustration and anger. When we procrastinate it can adversely affect our health. In a study done in 2007, researchers found that while at the beginning of the semester students who procrastinated showed less signs of illness and lower levels of stress than non-procrastinators, by the end of the semester, the procrastinators were found to have higher levels of stress and illness…
