Why Do People Good At Heart
To most people the Holocaust is one of the darkest periods of time in history. The Holocaust began in 1933 when Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany. It ended in 1945 when Allied forces defeated the Nazis. During this time a genocide occurred that slaughtered 6 million people of the Jewish faith. Throughout this era of darkness many people risked their lives to do what is best. Although, with all of the bad things people do, it may be easier to think that there is evil in everyone’s heart. I strongly believe that people are good at heart, despite the disturbing events of the Holocaust. The first reason why I believe this is because people risked their lives to help the Jews. The first example of this situation is from the movie The Book Thief. It is when Hans and Rosa Hubermann hid Max in their basement even with the threat of the Nazis (The Book Thief.) The second example comes from the website where it states “Bert and Anne Bochove, who hid 37 Jews in their pharmacy in Huizen, an Amsterdam suburb, pose here

In the website Rescue- United States Holocaust Memorial Museum the author states “Individuals willing to help Jews in danger faced severe consequences if they were caught, and formidable logistics of supporting people in hiding” (Rescue.) In the afterword of Anne Frank’s Diary it says “The majority of Germans supported Hitler or acquiesced in his government, though many were disturbed by his methods” (Frank.) These all illustrate the fact that many Germans felt in their heart that what was happening and what Hitler was doing was wrong. Many stood up for what they believed to be right and risked their lives to help those in need, but even if they didn’t take a stand they didn’t necessarily agree the actions of Hitler and the
