Why Do News Aggregate Bias?
The purpose of the numerous amount of news outlets is to inform the general population of events and occurrences that they would normally not have knowledge of. It’s so people in New York can know that Texas was hit by a severe storm. In general, to keep the country connected. But, when did it become about getting your own personal opinions across? When did it become a platform for individuals to express their bias unto the populous? Nowadays the news is constantly flooding the airwaves and newspapers with bias opinions and skewing information so that it supports a certain view. All to benefit a specific person or group. There are numerous examples to back my opinion. In august of 2014 the Islamic extremist group known as Isis seized thousands of properties from Christian residents. This should be a big deal but major news outlets such as ABC CBS and NBC didn’t provide its viewers with any information on this topic. In November of 2014 reporter Melissa Francis was effectively silenced by CNBC for criticizing Obamacare. She had stated that there were mathematical errors, rather than political problems, present that wouldn’t allow people to keep their own healthcare. This statement proved to be true as many Americans found there healthcare canceled. She was told that her statement was disrespecting the President. Again the news showed its bias by dedicating half an hour to the deflate gate scandal of the future super bowl winning New England Patriots while only a minute of the show to report that President Obama had released five major terrorists from Guantanamo Bay and placed them back into areas with extremist violence. This would seem is an effort to defer the public’s attention from a serious mistake by the President and bring more attention to something trivial like a few PSI missing from

    A regular viewer may not filter out any bias, therefore media sources often times over-exaggerate in order to persuade their audience. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech and press, so without any restrictions media outlet can freely express their views how ever they like. In a general sense the Constitution created this immunity that protects the rights of groups rather than primarily of individuals. "How is the media biased?" Media outlets like all cooperations has a goal, and that goal is to frame the public's mind. The motive is clear, it is designed to provoke and persuade. With the technology advancing at an exponential rate, it makes it easier for anyone to come across a biased article or news on the internet. I am not saying all news coverage are not straightforward, but the most popular ones have the most opinionated hosts. Due to theses segmented biases, many informations are distorted. These include bias by omissions, story selection, labeling, placement, selection of source, racial bias, conservative/liberal bias and so on. Many politicians utilize media for their benefit, like running their campaign. Because of the manipulative influence that media has on the public, many candidates attempt to get a hold of these media outlets to work in their favor.     For example, in Fox news, they reported an article from Trump’s side, he was portrayed as the victim, when in reality it was not certain why polls had been kept open longer. CBS reported both sides of this certain topic, but CBS is not excluded when bias is mentioned. CBS reports articles about Eric Trump’s “illegal ballot selfie”, and how Trump’s children were not able to vote in the primary either, due to the fact that they forgot to register. An article which was not reported on Fox. Although Fox reported about the fact that a man who was dying in Florida could not vote for Trump, because his signature did not match the one on the voting registration. It went on to state that this has been the cause of many votes not being counted, but this was not reported on CBS. Fox News reported around three articles in which people were not able to vote for Trump, none of which were mentioned on CBS. While CBS had multiple articles about Russia getting involved in the United States election. Fox not only did not mention anything about Russia, but tended to stay clear of any news about Putin. Fox news tends to report their articles from Trump’s point of view, while CBS tries to maintain an equal balance of views but tends to shift the blame to Trump.
