Why Do High School Students Attend College
High school students typically have mixed feelings of relief and anticipation as their senior year approaches. Many will plan to go to college, or jump right into the workforce, and some will pursue other paths, such as joining the military. Colleges are making it easier for students who are transitioning from high school to college by offering freshman based events, services, and groups (Turner, Thompson 2015). Although, this tends to ease the anxiety that high school graduates have when entering college, students that have the option of completing their senior year, or getting an early start on college have an even heavier choice to make.

Students that have completed all of their high school requirements have the option to graduate early, which is an appealing decision for many with that choice, but the decision is not easily made. Some students have career and academic reasons for graduating early, and staying in high school longer than they needed to result in taking "general classes" and electives that focus little on their interests (Knoles 2009). Students usually have to load on general classes just to make up for a year's worth of curriculum. With choices like these, students can easily lose the momentum of starting college, and continuing their strides toward excellence.

Students are expected to be equally as productive as other freshman entering college who completed all four years of high school. There is also the pain of leaving friends, and missing high school events, since many high schools do not allow students who've graduated invitation to their senior prom. There is also the financial standpoint. Students graduating early sometimes miss out on scholarships. Scholarships are first come-first serve deal, and sometimes they are unable to meet the conditions or requirements due to the time of year they finish

I believe students should enter college right after high school. I have are very strong opinion about this topic. We all have goals and its better now than later. As well it’s a great learning experience outside of getting a degree, you learn independent. Having to make decision in life basically depends on the individual and their situation. We can say that we want to go to college whether it is now or in the future. I can say that, for myself had I known what I know this day in time my choices would have been different. My point of view about this topic is that I know that before we graduate from high school that we are already getting yourself prepared for life goals. I think it is very important to plan for the future even if you may need to give yourself a year to continue education. Just look at it this way, if you were to go to college after high school where do you think that you will be in the next five years. Hopefully proud of yourself that you have applied yourself and became successful. On another note what if you waited a year, where do you think that you will be. Well I have to honestly say in my situation, starting college at the of thirty-seven its more challenging and I think that had I attended college after high school, maybe it would have been less stressful. The reason I say this, I know that my learning mode would have been fresher due to me coming straight from high school. I believe that it makes you lazy and can push you back things more complicated for the long run. . So with this being said there are advantages and disadvantages but as an individual I think that getting yourself prepared for what you want in life that it’s very important to make the best decision for you.…

Even in high school you’re sheltered and teachers constantly remind you of assignments. Professors won’t waste their time reminding a student of their assignments. You receive a syllabus and they expect you to be aware of all the readings and upcoming assignments. Many turn to the social scene when work is too hard.…

Kirst (2003), expressed that students aspires to attend college but their desire is being undermined by the disconnection between what post-secondary expects from students and what high school students prepare for. This factors leads them to being economically disadvantaged which is not a good thing. He relates that students in the study are so poorly prepared for their college experience that they ended up taking remedial courses that causes a huge psychological barrier between those freshmen and graduating students who survived their term at college. First and foremost, students should be allowed to receive more of an academic challenge than what high schools provide. A student can receive this challenge by choosing to graduate from high school a year early and attending college. After a student has been at a school for long, he may notice that the school no longer provides much of an academic challenge. Students should be exposed to higher expectations and standards to expand their learning (Infobase Learning, 1). Graduating early is a chance for students to skip…

In addition, high school's control over many decisions that are made for students seems to be more restrictive than college. In my book school was pre-set and can not be changed by the student to fit his needs. For example, the student's time schedule is set every year. Every student must go the same amount of hours ever year. In my case I had to go to school from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. everyday, whether I actually need to or not. I had to spend more time in classes I probably did not need to take but had to fill up my block of time.…
