Why Do Christians Use Violence?
After much thought and careful consideration I have come to believe that Christians should use violence. Now I'm not saying that Christians should use violence for no reason. I'm saying that Christians should use violence for a just reason. There are multiple types of war that have happened. First you have just plain war. Usually this is fought with an unnecessary reason. Usually this can be avoided but our human nature doesn't let it happen. Then you have a holy war. A holy war is fought between two religions for religious purposes. The only holy war to ever happen other than in the Old Testament was the first crusade. The first crusade was a just war. The Muslims took over Jerusalem and started killing Christians which made the first crusade …show more content…
John 2:15 states “when he made a whip of cords he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers money and overturned tables.” Even Jesus Christ used violence when it was necessary and we all know Jesus never sinned. What about god using violence in the New Testament? We also all know that God does not change and if you believe that he does change then he is not truly God. Also, didn’t Jesus go to war with the devil to protect us from sin? Romans 13:4 states “For he is God’s minister to you for good, but if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain.” This verse talks about God bearing the sword. He is saying bear the sword, but not in vain which comes back to the whole Just War theory. Since Romans 13:4 says do not bear the sword in vain then isn’t the Just War theory the correct stance to believe in? God loves everyone on this earth. The earth is also full of sin and people are constantly getting corrupted with sin. Therefore bad things are going to happen and it’s going to come to a point where it’s necessary to defend yourself or your loved ones. There should be plenty of examples to sway you to defend yourself and your loved

    The First Crusade was a military expedition by the Roman Catholic Church from 1096-1099 in order to retake holy lands taken by Muslim conquest of the Levant. The result of the work led to the recapturing of Jerusalem. During the crusade knights and peasants from many parts of Western Europe traveled by land and sea to Constantinople and then to Jerusalem. The peasants outnumbered the knights. Peasants and knights were split into separate armies. However, because the peasants weren't well-trained in combat their army failed to reach Jerusalem. The knights arrived at Jerusalem and launched an assault on the city and captured it in July1099 while killing many of the city's Muslim and Jewish people. They also established the crusader states of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. The First Crusade mainly began because of political and social problems in Europe during the 11th century. It seems that Christianity caused the majority of the problem because the papacy wanted to establish a uniform religion throughout Europe, but there were many battles across the land that caused so many problems. As a result the popes who had great political power established these crusades which were fairly well organized. Although Europe was successful in capturing Jerusalem for the first time their rule was short lived. They weren't even able to maintain hold on Jerusalem for more than two centuries. Before this crusade the Byzantine Empire had to fight with the Seljuqs and other Turkish dynasties for control. When the crusaders arrived there had already been conflict wit the area. The pope rulers were too much of extremists. They worried about capturing land for religious purposes before trying to improve their own living conditions before trying to capture even more land.
