Why Did Woodrow Wilson Win The Great War
In 1916, Woodrow Wilson became the first democrat president to win a second consecutive term since Andrew Jackson. Wilson won the election by vowing to remain neutral in the Great War. He himself, in his first term, said “America was too proud to fight.”
The Great War was mainly between Germany and their allies, and Russia and their allies. The two countries had long simmering national rivalries and complex ethnic conflicts but, the war erupted when a Serbian nationalist murdered the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne and his pregnant wife.
