Why Did North And South Korea Cause Fear In America?
North and South Korea has been at war and it caused fear in America because if North Korea won then America was afraid that the rest of Asia would join communism. So America joined the war against North Korea and while aiding South Korea, China had decided to join North Korea in the war as well since they are allied with North Korea. The war was one of the most deadliest wars in American history. The war was very dangerous with the elements there for America because they were not use to the temperatures there. The war for Korea has begun and will not go well for both sides in the war.
If North Korea won the war against South Korea and joined communism than other countries from Asia would do the same so America joined the war against North Korea. This fear brought many Americans to be even more scared about the nukes coming to their country and homes. So America asked the United Nations to send troops to Korea to protect South Korea from North Korea but China warned the United Nations that if they attacked than China will help North Korea. The United Nations thought that

North Korea would have allowed the Soviet Union to set up nukes in that country and other Asian countries if North Korea would have won the war. This war shows how bad it was in the Cold War for if North Korea claimed to be communist and America would have feared that the leaders would assume that other Asian countries would do the same. So, because of this America believed that if war was involved, people would assume that America will not let that happen without a war and try to prevent that event from ever happening. This is why the fear was justified because if America did not get involved than the Cold War might have actually happened and life would probably cease to

While the two world powers never fought face to face, their ideological differences caused proxy wars, in which both countries would support opposing sides of a war effort as a way of competition. The Korean War was the first substantial battle between the two countries in the name of containment. Before the 1950’s invasion by the North Korean Army, Korea had been divided into two sectors; the communist North, supported by the Soviet Union, and the anti communist South, supported by the United States (Foner 715). The Truman administration sent American troops into Korea in an attempt to militarily suppress the northern invasion. Through the help of the United Nations, fifteen other countries also committed resources to the Southern Korean side.…

North Korea discussed the prospect of war with both China and the Soviet Union whom supported the initiative. On June 25th, 1950 the NKPA invaded South Korea with an estimated force of 90,000 soldiers. The President of the United States, Harry S. Truman did not want to get involved as he believed that a war with the Soviet Union would lead to World War III. However, President Truman decided to get involved since the Soviet Union had stated that they were not going to interfere militarily in the conflict. Seven days after the invasion of South Korea by the NKPA, US soldiers from 1st Battalion, 21st Regiment, of the 24th Infantry Division had landed in Korea from Japan to fend off the NKPA for as long as they could until reinforcements could…

The Korean War “was a symbol of the global struggle between… good and evil” (History.com). This war could have been the start of World War III. The two largest military powers in the world were backing opposite sides of a border war. South Korea and the United States were the “good guys” because they believed that their morals were better than that of North Korea and the Soviet Union who were viewed as the “big bad bully.” America's involvement in the war symbolized that good moral can’t be defeated by any amount of evil. Morals are a hard thing to hold onto…

Starting off, the misperception theory will be discussed on whether or not the theory is supported by the evidence. According to the material listed in the historical summary part of the essay, the theory of misperception was indeed deemed to be true. The evidence in the historical evidence that supports this was the part where it said North Korea thought they were stronger in overall strength compared to South Korea. The misperception here was the fact that the United States ended up joining the conflict on behalf of the South Koreans. That is what the misperception was, as the North Koreas believed the United States was not going to intervene thus the misperception in thinking they were stronger than South Korea as a whole. Despite the history between South Korea and the United States, North Korea basically ignored that relationship to see what they wanted to see. A term to describe this is “motivated misperception”. As already mentioned, motivated misperception is where a country sees what they want to see when they are in pursuit of something. So in this case, the motivated misperception came about when The North Koreas ignored the presence of the United States and used strong reasoning on why they wouldn’t join to the Soviet Union because of how bad they wanted to attack South Korea. They were in the mindset of saying anything to get the…

The cause of the war can be traced back to 1945 when the war ended and Korea was split between the USSR and the USA by the 38th parallel, a vote was meant to be held throughout the whole of Korea about who the people wanted as their leader in order to re-unify Korea, however, the USSR pulled their side out of this vote because they feared the country would choose Capitalism and it would push back their fight to spread communism to other countries. If the USSR had taken part in this vote then it is possible the country would have been united and the war would have never happened. Historian Peter Lowe supports this view saying that each of the major players hoped only hoped to ‘improve their international position’ by fighting in Korea.…

Stalin wanted to test America’s commitment to their policies of containment so when they responded it showed that America was willing to continue stopping communism even 4 years after World War 2. When the United States waded into the muddy waters of battle they had one goal, contain communism and uphold the democratic state which was South Korea; and they did. The war shows again commitment to the cause and doing what is needed in order to fight off the USSR’s attempts to expand communist reign. Furthermore, the justifying quality of war was the end result. After the war ended, South Korea’s government system of democracy lived. For the U.S this was an embodiment of containment and the future seemingly boded in the side of the North Atlantic Treaty…

The invasion surprised the South Koreans. This advancement of the North Korean troops was considered the first military action in the Cold War. It was thought of a civil war at first. President Truman responded immediately by requesting the United Nations Security Council to intervene for the benefit of South Korea. The United States also responded by July with military troops to support South Korea in hopes that they could contain the threat and spreading of communism. The Truman Doctrine which was a policy that the United States put in place to support countries trying to free themselves of the communist threat became the rationale for the United States involvement. The United States feared that this invasion would provoke a wider war with Russia and China or possibly World War III. This idea was stated in the Domino effect theory because the theory stated if one area was influenced by communism then other areas would follow in a domino effect. Finally, in July 1953, the Korean War ended with more than 5 million soldiers and civilians losing their lives. Unfortunately, the Korean peninsula is still divided…

The domino theory was the notion that stated if one country fell under communist influence its neighboring countries would soon follow, like a falling domino causing the entire row of upended dominoes to fall. The blockade and tension in Berlin, made the United States aware of further conflicts involving the spread of communism like the Korean War. The domino theory caused the United States to take the Truman Doctrine and containment very seriously. In Korea, the north supported communism while the south believed in capitalism. The 38th parallel divided these two beliefs prior to the Korean War like the Berlin Wall. Because North Korea demonstrated efforts to spread communism by invading through the 38th parallel, the United States upheld the ideology of containment and agreed to not let this occur. As North Korea was aided by the Soviet Union to spread communism, the United States backed South Korea to stop it. Due to the invasion, a proxy war broke out which resulted in a tie and each side ended back in their original territories from the 38th parallel. The United States involvement in the Korean War demonstrated the determination to not concede to the Soviet Union by not letting communism spread any further. By aiding South Korea, communism was restrained and the United States was able to succeed by applying the Truman Doctrine. Due to the domino theory, the United States was prepared for similar spread of communism in Korea like Germany, but to ensure no diffusion the United States aided the hot war in Korea unlike Germany as it remained as a Cold…
