Why Cursive Should Not Be Taught In Schools
I tried once to learn cursive, but it was always harder for me to write in cursive than print. I am not saying that we should leave handwriting behind altogether, I’m just saying we shouldn’t waste students and teachers time teaching this form of handwriting (we already have too many useless & forgettable facts being “taught” already). Almost all of the “proof” that cursive enthusiasts provide points to handwriting as a whole, not just cursive. I think that cursive could be taught in schools, it just shouldn’t be a mandatory class. Having cursive as a mandatory class, could probably stress kids out who are like me, and hate the idea of cursive being mandatory. Having cursive be mandatory could probably also make the education system look even *WORSE* than it looks now, It would make no sense to add things to our list of teachings, when there’s stuff that needs to be removed from that list first. I personally don’t see why cursive is being so desperately kept alive, because in my opinion, cursive should not be taught in schools.

There are more relevant things in life that schools should start teaching, rather than cursive (examples: how to pay income tax, how to get a mortgage ect). It should be up to the student whether they think it would be a good idea, to enroll in a class that teaches him/her cursive. Of course, I’m not saying we should stop teaching handwriting altogether, I just think that teaching cursive, isn’t helpful. Perhaps we could teach them to sign their name, but that’s probably the only important purpose cursive serves. More people can read print rather than cursive now, & in case you didn’t know when you’ve know only how to print your whole life, it’s not easy, like… AT ALL, cursive’s never really helped me, I don’t see why so many people are trying to defend
