Why Colleges Should Be Paid In College
Sports in college is one of the main organizations there can be. Its Brings most of the funds a college and earn. Colleges don’t not care much about academic, they want to make money. So therefore in order to do so they worry about sports more than academic to earn more funds. I believe they should continue to support the sports more than academic.
Most colleges are very strict when it comes to being a part of a group besides academic or a medical program. For example, a college won’t accept you if you’re not bringing in money in any shape or form. Such as playing basketball, or on the swim team. You could have a 4.0, which is a very good gpa and they would still not accept you. They do not want to hear about academics more than sports.

While many schools claim this to be their policy, they still poor huge amounts into athletic budgets, buying new uniforms year after year for football teams and shamelessly recruiting students for their athletic abilities. While a well rounded student is great, requiring sports creates difficulty for some students, this issue is highlighted in Edward Koren's piece "Two Scoreboards." How can a school be claim to be equally invested in education and sports, if a school really wanted well rounded students it would not let art departments struggle from being under funded. While sports are important to students the score they earn on tests should be more celebrated then the score board at a…

Education needs to be placed on the forefront, while athletics should come after, regardless of how good the athlete may be in his or her choice of sport. Unfortunately, this is a drawback for some athletes – having to maintain their eligibility. Some students maintain great grades during high school and possibly are awarded a scholarship to a school of higher learning so to speak. When all too often, the only reason they are awarded to go there is to play the sport they excel in. These actions can and will play an important part in the athlete’s future, if they do not have a back-up plan in academics. I remember not too long ago, a few high school graduates that were awarded scholarships to college to play football. I had asked one of the students what study they were majoring in. They said to me they did not know, they were going to be in home economics course to start. I think all too often, some colleges focus on the person as a whole. With this continually happening year after year, one would have to ask themselves how smart the children are in our society, or does it even matter as long as they can throw the ball seventy…

Some colleges make more money than others. This graph shows the schools with the most profit in their sports programs. Somebody could say that the athletes bring in an enormous amount of money. According to Jeff Dorfman, a professor of Economics at the University of Georgia, only a few collegiate sports actually bring in money. Therefore, an athlete in a sport that isn’t very profitable wouldn’t make nearly get as much as an athlete in a very profitable sport. Along with the sports being very profitable they also have to pay for an even larger variety of different things. Student athletes should not be paid because of the money that would be paid to them. The money that they would be paid could be used to advance other things in the university such as better libraries, science labs, fixing up the dorms, or even improving their athletic facilities. Although the athletes put a lot of time into their schooling and sports the benefits they are given is equal to what they are giving and being…

We often look at college athletes as miniature stars. The question is, why should student’s athlete get a paycheck for playing amateur level sports? Athletes complain about how they do not get enough for playing a sport. They are forgetting that they are being rewarded with a half or full scholarship. The main goal for these athletes is being academically successful. Not who has the best jump shot or who fumbled a ball, that does not matter. The essence of playing college level has been taken out of place, now replaced with the mindsets of professional athletes. Did they forget? You are not professionals. The love of the game has been through extortion for the love of money. Paying college athletes will lead the students astray from what they attended the institution to accomplish in the first place, that is, to earn a degree, not to gain a compensation.…

Over the years college athletics have grown dramatically. Between all of the sports there is an unbelievable amount of money made for the school. Football, mens basketball, and women’s basketball are the top sports for bringing in money. While those are the top three, they aren’t the only ones to bring in money. Every sport contributes especially if they are a winning team. Athletes struggle everyday with getting their schoolwork done and being on time to class, managing time between work, school, and sports, and it is hard for them to maintain a healthy lifestyle with little time for everything. Many believe that athletes at the college level deserve some sort of benefits whether it be, getting paid, receiving less homework, more class time, etc… Even though many people are for this, a lot of people are also against the thought of giving them more benefits.…

Put yourself in the shoes of a twenty three year old. They have just graduated with their bachelor's degree. They do not have to worry about school any longer, no longer have to attend classes, or worry about not remembering the answer to a question on an exam. However, their debt in student loans will follow them until they are in their mid fourties. They will not want to eat stably, purchase good clothes. They may miss electricity bills, or struggle to keep a cheap apartment as it is. They will struggle to survive, not to live, all because they need to get all of the debts that they are swimming in, paid as quickly as possible, just so that they can start living their life. While people may believe that this will cost society more money, when it comes to college level education, I believe that all tuition and fees should be covered by the government, all the way to a phd.…

“The NCCA should stop treating athletic departments as ticket offices attached to universities like tumors and instead treat them as legitimate academic branches”(Jenkins). I agree with this statement because NCAA universities don’t look deeply into their athletic programs. Athletics in college is more then an extracurricular it is part of the college business just like the academics are. Athletics generate more money for the school and also brings out the best in the community. Also high performing athletes who are projected to play on the professional level is what also bring more money because many people enjoy watching them play. Therefore, they should make sports majors available.…

So, as a result of that, they attempt to become professional and the do not succeed. Now they can not go back to school and get good grades to then be able to get a well-paying job. Dedicated students work hard to have good GPAs. They stay awake late doing homework and projects. These students always participate in class, and turn work in on time. As well as dedicating a lot of their time to school, making A honor roll or A&B honor roll through all the four years in high school and receiving awards based on their dedication. Even after doing all of this, when they become high school seniors, they have a giant problem ahead of them: How do I pay for college? Students whose families live in bad conditions do not have the extra money for college. They only have enough money to pay for the necessities such as rent, bills and clothes. This leaves these students who have the dedication, motivation, and work hard without any…

Second of all, college sports is big business. You might argue College sports generate billions of dollars, to be exact 11 Billion dollars in annual revenues. These revenues are given to NCAA executives, athletic directors and coaches in the form of salaries, and no athlete sees a dollar, When they truly are the reason these billions of dollars are made. The NCAA is flourishing while players continue to struggle paying for food, travel, books and other expenses. Now you might say, why cant such one go get a job. was a classed that used to be a requirement according to the article. “In the 1920s, almost all universities required P.E. classes toward degrees.” In my opinion if a physical education class was required to receive a degree then there be a degree for it. For my final reason the article said, “But one question that gets little attention is how schools can keep big-time athletics connected to their academic objectives.” I do firmly believe a degree in athletics could help contribute to this problem if athletes connecting to their academic objective. If you want to play a sport and playing it isn’t contributing to their major why would you do both. At that point, the only thing that makes since is to drop either your classes or your sport. In my opinion that is how the situation is for most athletes at a collegiate level. With most of the situations and theories in this article I believe them to be true, but not very impactful on the decision allowing a sports degree. In conclusion, there are many reasons why sports should have a degree, and they can be compared to the fine arts in respects of having a…

The tuition is not the only thing that makes college expensive. Coming from high school where I walked to school and was given free lunch, I find myself now spending money daily. During the peak heat of the summer is when I make most of my money due to my jobs being seasonal and I am able to coast through the winter without working, but that is only because I live cheaply in the winter months. Now that I am spending more I will have to pay more attention to my money and create a budget. It is important to start tracking my money, showing my savings account more attention, packing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches instead of Taco Bell and making friends help with gas. To prevent stress maybe I will try to work over the winter. The most important…

filled with competing students. Yes, it is true that studies are the most important pillar for student’s good future but sports is equally important. Regular participation in sport activities will help a student to keep his/her body fit and mind fresh. If students are involved in sports then they will know what they’re good at, because there is a very good career in sports too and they may even choose to follow that career. Colleges spend too much money for libraries but hesitate to spend money for sports but it is not healthy to do so even biologically because if a student only studies and doesn’t take part in any sports activities then his mind automatically becomes dull and all that he has studied might not get inside his head, which will be useless.…
