It’s time to pay My topic is about why ALL college athletes of every college sport should be paid some sort of money. Now a days in the collegiate world of sports, colleges and Universities are generating millions upon millions of dollars through the athletic programs. From football all the way down to the golf team. Yet, the people who bring these millions of dollars in aren’t getting paid for it. I’m speaking about the athletes. The athlete’s adults and even children have come to know, love and cheer on every single game, get not once dime from the revenue the University brings in. It is time to start paying collegiate athletes. I plan to write this as a purpose to argue and show people the facts on why collegiate athletes should be paid for what they do. Support facts that college officials of the NCAA have to say and reasons to back each and every one of those up. For my first point, is the money generated and how it’s not fairly distributed. The players BRING the money into the Universities all by themselves. Even in some cases, one single player alone can bring in close to 100 million dollars alone. For instance, Johnny Manziel, quarterback for Texas A&M University football team. He alone brought $59.3 million dollars into the athletic program in 2012, from ticket sales, people buying his jersey on and offline and other miscellaneous items. Not one penny did he receive from NCAA but the NCAA will gladly let the Texas A&M dean build a new 34 million dollar library from that money he brought to the University. People come to see Johnny Manziel play, that’s a huge part why almost every game is sold out on a weekly basis. Just to see one man play. I feel personally as if a University has that type of caliber in a player as they do in Johnny, why not pay him some of the money the University gets OFF of them, I’m not saying millions but I’m saying a good amount, after all. For my second point, I

Money gives food, money gives water, money gives life, but money is not given to collegiate football athletes. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA, made a billion dollars on the games during March Madness and even after the nets were cut and a champion was crowned not a single player was give any money. Collegiate football players, or any collegiate player for that matter, should be paid for each game based on how hard they work and how dedicated they are to their sport. The athletes are the basis and the main reason the NCAA makes their millions. In addition, it can give these athletes a financial education and better prepare them for their future. Money is the reason people thrive.…

The System for college athletes isnt perfect, and needs to be worked on, a big problem we cannot seem to agree is how to compensate the student-athletes who drive the NCAA. I would like to start off with a question. Are college athletes being compensated enough for the effort they put forth today? Every Day they wake up early and represent their university whether they are putting in work in class or on the field. Each student-student athlete generates tons of money for their university and they don’t see a dime other than their scholarship that may or may not been renewed every year. Keep that question in mind while reading this essay, and form your own opinion.…

"Should College Athletes Get Paid To Play" Forget about the game-winning touchdown, forget about the cheerleader girlfriend, and forget the pageantry. What about the hard earned money college athletes will never see and earned? In the world of college sports its win or go home, and to the winners go the spoils. Most successful college sports teams rake in millions of dollars in revenue. Steve Spurrier, the coach for the Florida Gators signed a six year contract where he would make a little over 2.5 million dollars a year not including certain benefits like a free car for his wife. So with the institutions and coaches getting rich off their player who is to say that the player does not deserve a share of the wealth? Most college athletes get around 200-250 dollars a month for living expenses and spending money, this is very small compared to the student who has time to work. Some people say that athletes get paid by having a scholarship but if you look at the ulterior motive behind scholarships I think people would change their minds. Coaches try to get players who they think have the talent to make them win and to persuade them to come to their school they try to give them scholarships. So the whole idea behind a scholarship is to lure the student to come to your school. Scholarships are just a recruitment tactic. Don't confuse what I am saying though I don't think college players should be making millions of dollars but there should be a set salary for all players no matter if they make the highlights everyday or ride the pine. The players should make at least what a person who works making eight dollars and hour would make in a year, and that is a modest salary too. Every player of a college sport puts in countless man-hours of work to their sport instead of going out and getting a job they have to devote all their time to this. A huge debate is should players have the right to their likenesses? If you go to a bookstore…

The number one reason why college athletes should be paid is because they deserve it. College student athletes are working hard anywhere between 30 to 40 hours a week to be successful and excellent. On average every college athletic season ranks in between ten and 150 million dollars in revenue and zero dollars are rewarded to the athletes. Recently there was about an 11 billion dollar deal made between the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the television station, CBS. The deal revolved around a popular event in men’s college basketball, March Madness. The deal was that from 2011 to 2024, CBS would be the station to air the three weekend long event, and again, zero dollars go to the athletes making the event possible. March Madness doesn’t exist without the athletes and they receive none of the billions of dollars the event makes. Andrew Luck was a starting quarterback for Stanford University and a Heisman Trophy candidate. Fans came to the Stanford football games just to see him play. People purchased the jersey emblazoned with his name and number from the Stanford gift shop and he made absolutely no profit from this. Everything went to Nike and the University itself. Andrew Luck is just one example among the many college student…

College athletes are the hardest working individuals in college. Balancing academics and sports is never a simple task and is especially challenging in college. The athletes are still required to achieve passing grades, although many of them will play professionally. Paying college athletes would benefit all athletes, providing a small stipend for all of the sacrifices they have made practicing, training, and traveling, in addition to school work.…

Today, sports are no longer fun and games, sports are a business, and college sports are no different. Division I college sports provide a huge source of universities’ income. The school receives money from ticket sales, television contracts, and sport-related merchandise, along with many other sports related revenue builders. The athletes on the other hand, receive their scholarship and little more. While the idea of receiving a free college education is something few would complain about; when the issue is more closely examined it becomes evident that it is not enough. Universities are exploiting athletes, and recently the problems that this creates have become more prominent. More and more athletes are now leaving school early to enter the professional leagues in order to make money. There have also been more reports of violations surrounding university boosters and alumni paying players. Furthermore, athletes have been accused of making deals with gamblers and altering the outcome of games. All of these problems could be minimized, if not completely eliminated, by adopting a program for compensating student athletes. College athletes are exploited by their schools, which make millions of dollars off of them. This leads to violations, students leaving college early, and student-athletes that cannot even afford to do anything that their sport doesn’t sponsor. The NCAA and professional leagues can work together to institute a plan to compensate these athletes and remedy all these problems.…

“It’s Time for College Athletes to Get Paid”, an article written by AJ Enno, examines college athletics are a key source of income, and they attract students to their colleges. The article states, universities depend on their athletes to produce and maintain the popularity of their school's name. He acknowledges college athletes are supposed to be the best of the best on that level, so this is why they should get paid. Enno also states, college athletes make enough money for universities that it would not hurt to give some back. So while the coaches get paid more than the President of the United States does, players sit back and have to be content with the sweat off their back as payment. He identifies, without the players coaches would not get paid as much as they do, and nobody goes to see a college game to see the coach in action, they go to see the players. Enno discusses, these athletes are practicing one half of the day and going to school the second half; there is no extra time for them to hold a job. It’s sad that people play video games with these players’ in the games, but they can’t collect any type of paycheck from game publishers; but the NCAA does. “It’s Time for College Athletes to Get Paid”, concludes that college sports will always be a big money maker for big time universities and colleges and they should take better care of their athletes by paying them for their…

While catching up on some game day scores for college football, an article popped up on the side with a title reading, College Athletes Deserve To Be Paid. I noticed it was written by Michael Wilbon, one of the hosts from the ESPN show, Pardon the Interruption. Already disagreeing with the title before even reading it, I was skeptical, but I clicked on the link and started to read. Wilbon brought up a number of decent points throughout the article, but for some odd reason, they didn’t seem to add up to me. This is why I took the opportunity to do a little more research behind the points made in the article and came up with a concept of my own. Wilbon’s reasons why to pay the athletes don’t have a strong backbone to them and his ideas on how to pay athletes are simply not feasible.…

In recent years, colleges throughout the nation have come across plenty of controversy concerning the idea of whether or not athletes should be paid to play sports in college. To this day the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) deems this a violation of their rules, and that is no matter what the amateur status of the players who make college athletics a billion-dollar business is not going to change (“Associated Press”, 2013). Even though the issue is constantly being debated and to some the answer remains "up in the air" still to this day (Dabad, n.d.), I think the answer is quite simple on why college athletes shouldn’t be paid.…

College players need to get paid for what they do. When college players do not get paid, they do not get paid for the great things that they do on national TV. College players make more money for school playing their sport than people's salaries. Did you know that just if you make it to the NCAA BCS game, you get at least six million dollars. That's not even if you win. Sure student athletes get free things like free tuition, board, room fees, and food, but paying players would give them money for things like laundry, late night snacks, food for restaurants when on the road, and just different things. The three reasons why student athletes should get paid is because playing a college sport is like having a job, college players make money for…
