Lady Macbeth is an ambitious and ruthless woman who desires power and status. She appears stronger and more callous than Macbeth as she manipulates him to assassinate Duncan. However, as the bloodshed continues, her guilty conscience becomes more affected than Macbeth’s. Unlike Macbeth, who grows insensitive to the murders that he has committed, she descends into madness and (apparently) commits suicide as she becomes less capable to withstand the horrors of her crime.…
With careful contemplation on the circumstances that pushed Macbeth to commit atrocious acts, I believe that Lady Macbeth was the trigger that caused him to lose his humanity in exchange for becoming the king. By consistently highlighting the benefits of becoming king, Lady Macbeth takes advantage of the opportunity provided to her to convince Macbeth that he was entitled to the crown. Due to Lady Macbeth’s actions, Macbeth had limited himself to a certain perspective and allowed himself to become overridden by his ambition to become king.…
Macbeth is one of the greatest plays and most valuable lessons there is for the people who are overly ambitious. Macbeth’s downfall was all because of weakness, he didn’t believe in himself and he did not realize that he did not have to submit to his wife to be considered a man. Phony prophecies, overly ambitious wife, weak mind, insecurities and overall half of the ambition on his part was unwanted lead to all the atrocious acts done in the play. His wife was quite the manipulator and got him to do just about anything, many would say it is her fault for his downfall, although it may not be entirely her fault or the witches because somewhere deep inside of him he already had the burning sensation to be powerful, she played a big role in his…
Macbeth runs out of the room with bloody hands and a guilty conscious! His wife tells him to go clean up and dispose of the evidence but he cannot move, he’s froze in his steps! So many thoughts going there his mind, but why did he do it? You can clearly see that he regrets it, so why did he kill the king? Was it for himself or was Lady Macbeth’s pressure to much so he did or maybe was it the witches put a spell on him? I…
After reading Macbeth by Shakespeare, many are left with one question: who is responsible for Macbeth’s downfall? It can be argued that there are multiple people at fault for his demise. However, the play shows a lot of evidence that Lady Macbeth is the reason Macbeth follows an evil path that ultimately leads to his end. To start with, Lady Macbeth makes the wrong assumption. Although the witches’ prophecy never states how Macbeth will become king, Lady Macbeth assumes that he must kill Duncan to take the crown.…
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of downfall is “a sudden loss of power, happiness, success, or something that causes failure”. Downfall is involved in William Shakespeare’s notorious play, The Tragedy of Macbeth. Despite the fact that it seems as though Lady Macbeth and the witches took a toll on Macbeth’s behaviour throughout the play, Macbeth’s personal decisions lead him to his own catastrophe. Firstly, Macbeth’s brave and courageous nature motivates him to commit a serious crime, in which he was not completely satisfied with; due to the fact that it made people believe that he did not attain the king of Scotland in a fair manner. Secondly, Macbeth is an obstinate character. Macbeth wants nothing to do with his conscience. He refuses to listen to his conscience. His conscience requests that he changes his ways and forgets about the terrible things he has done in the past, since it is directing him in the wrong direction. Additionally, being extremely pragmatic directed Macbeth to his downfall in reason of him trying to complete problems instead of relying on specific ideas. Lastly, Macbeth’s emotional disorder takes a toll on his behaviour throughout the novel. His emotional disorder leads him to do things that he does not mean. Succeeding the killing of king Duncan, Macbeth is concerned about the death and he also feels remorseful to the crime he has committed. Also, Macbeth’s insanity causes him to hallucinate Banquo’s ghost, who is a commander of Duncan’s army. Macbeth’s actions after hallucinating precisely shows that he feels guilty for the committing the crimes.…
I have been Lady Macbeth’s friend for a long time. Even though she was a nice, quiet lady, she was quite ambitious. If she wanted something, she would get it. This is why I believe that she had a rolle in the killings, and I will also evaluate that role. Macbeth was always uncertain about killing King Duncan and Banquo until Lady Macbeth started talking to him about it.…
William Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth is an unfortunate one. Although Macbeth does take the actions that lead to his downfall, he is not fully responsible for his behavior. After encountering three witches who foretell the future for him, he desperately wants to believe what they say since everything they told him is good on his part. It is said that the witches were just figments of his imagination. In either case, the prophecies told act as a vehicle to plant ambition in him which then leads him to be greedy with his new found happiness, lie to all those he trusts, and eventually to multiple murders.…
They are embraced affectionately by the King and in the honor of Macbeth the King declares that he would spend a night at Macbeth’s castle at Inverness. He also makes an announcement that his eldest son i.e. Malcolm would be his heir. That was the bolt from the blue and Macbeth realizes that he needs to act promptly. He rushes back to his castle pretending that he needs to make arrangements for the reception of the King. Lady Macbeth has been introduced to the prophecy via the letter and had planned the murder of King Duncan. Macbeth vacillates but then it is decided that King Duncan would be murdered that very night, the two attendants would be made drunk and then smeared with blood and daggers were to be placed near them so that…
If one has the firmness of killing another, will that person collapse to the forces of guilt and turn themselves in, or will that person suffer the effects of guilt and try to live through their troubles? Guilt can cause many people to turn themselves in or can make people succumb into a deep hole. In the play "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, Shakespeare reveals that the effects of guilt can cause the downfall of one's status and more importantly, their inner being.…
Everyone as a human being has both good and bad characters, and they will also change as they grow old and some people also learn from their mistakes. In the play, “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare, the character of Lady Macbeth depicts both good and evil tendencies, particularly her evil tendencies can be seen at the beginning of the play. Over the course of time, Lady Macbeth changes adequately from the lust of power to more of an anguished person. The consolidation of the fatal influence by the witches and Lady Macbeth on Macbeth is what mustered for a disaster.…
Macbeth’s Downfall Thomas Babington Macaulay states that “The measure of a man’s real character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.” In the tragic play, Macbeth is written by William Shakespeare. The main character Macbeth is a man who is an acceptable man, but lets many things get in the way of his good character. As we know a Shakespearean tragedy offers a tragic hero who almost always meets his downfall because of an error or a weakness in his character. Throughout the play we read as he developed as a person and his choices eventually meant the difference between life and death.…
In my opinion I do not believe that Macbeth would have killed Duncan without him wife’s influence. His wife didn’t want to do it but she want him dead so that her husband could be king and she could be the queen.…
The influence of Macbeth's wife, Lady Macbeth also contributed to his fall of character. Lady Macbeth's character in the beginning reveals that she is a lovable person. When Lady…
Lady Macbeth? The driving force behind Macbeth's downfall? Certainly not. Macbeth was completely and solely responsible for all the acts of great evil which were to lead to his downfall, and to even suggest the blame can be shifted on his wife is ludicrous.…
