Who Is Responsible For Curleys Wife's Death
3. People often want to blame someone when "things go wrong." People

spend hours in court trying to find the guilty person. So, how would you

explain the death of Curley's wife? Who was irresponsible? In our time

people like Lennie are put to death similar acts. Argue who is

responsible and explain how events took such a tragic turn.

"As you would blame others, blame yourself; as you would forgive yourself, forgive others." - Chinese Proverb. This quote accurately depicts an ideal situation involving blaming others and forgiving others. When things go wrong people often make false accusations to get out of the way of the blame. Curley's wife's death was not the complete fault of Lennie. As is also true, in the court system today Lennie would have a certain sentence facing charges of manslaughter, even though the actions brought forth from Lennie were not intended or able to be stopped alone.

George understands Lennie's mental disabilities and was wrong in leaving him alone, regardless of what he told him to do. Also, Curley's wife was aware Lennie was not "right in the head" and basically provoked him into her own death. Of course, Curley's wife did not know that this would escalate to the degree it did but knowing his disabilities should not have allowed him to touch her air, or even hang out with him.

In our time, many people like Lennie have been to blame for tragic acts, but should not have been do to there disabilities. Laws are in act and should be enforced in a political justice manner when dealing with the unordinary citizens. Without a doubt, all of us are equal and I am not discriminating anyone with challenges like Lennie, but to be honest they just need a little bit more help and care. If George was there watching Lennie like he should have been none of this would have

One reason why Curley’s wife should be blamed for her death is by talking to Lennie when he pacifically told her, “Well, I ain’t supposed to talk to you or nothing.” (86). Curley’s wife didn’t listen to him and that started to questioning him about why he wasn’t supposed to be talking her. Lennie kept telling the same reason that his best friend George told him not to be talking to her because she was jailbait, and George didn’t want Lennie to go to jail because of her. The tart kept begging Lennie to bring up a conversation with her, but he came rejecting her offer. Finally, Curley’s wife changed the subject and asked Lennie a question about his lifeless puppy, and made Lennie caved into a conversation that lead her dead by the end of it.…

I am George Milton, an honest hard working ranch worker; I worked alongside my companion Lennie Small. Lennie had mental health issues that made him very dependent on one person. His Aunt Clara intrusted me to look after Lennie and take him down the right route to find work for us. I did not see this as a time to take advantage of this great trust, I had a companion at the great depression of this country, and for anyone to say to me I am a murderer I would say you are correct, I did shot Lennie in the back of the neck. Not for the reasons you denounce me for. I shot Lennie to take his pain away he was a grown man with no mind of his own. He had previously touched a girls dress in Weed for the sheer fact he loved to pet soft fabric, the lady started to squawk and Lennie tried to make her quiet as his instinct would tell him to. God damn chased out of Weed next thing you know we have a mob against us. Now just think at this moment I could have left Lennie there to make my life much easier, if that was my intentions hell I coulda planned to kill him with no one in the world knowing he was dead. And if I wanted him dead you think I would shoot him with everyone to see? Kinda dumb don’t you think?…

In the novel “Of Mice and Men” written by John Steinbeck George kills Lennie. Did George have the right to shoot Lennie? Or in further words did Lennie choose the right decision? This debate may cause a disagreement or friction between the readers. Although, it was a good idea for George to kill Lennie because he kept Lennie from suffering more. If George decided to let Curley kill him Lennie would have had a long and painful death. In the story Curley states,…

One of the ways Steinbeck shows Curley’s Wife as a villain is by portraying her as a tart. In chapter two, Candy quotes “Well, I think Curley’s married . . . . A tart.” In this chapter she is presented negatively, he uses his context to show she is a trouble maker and an attention seeker. The fact candy has labeled her a tart so soon makes us assume she is the villain in this novel. In the same chapter it is written ‘She had full rouged lips and wide spaced eyes, heavily made up. Her fingernails were red. Her hair hung up in little rolled clusters, like sausages. She wore a cotton house dress and red mules. ’ This quote shows she is covered in red – the colour of the devil – therefore she holds the characteristics of a devil too with an evil and manipulating personality. All of these traits are characteristic of clothing and cosmetics that might be worn by a prostitute – someone who often leads men on. The outcome makes the reader believe she is a villain as it has been established from the very start. However, red also represents the colour of love and passion, showing us she is the total opposite of what we assume. She is pre-judged by the other men when they don’t know a thing about her, she might be an innocent and sweet girl but they do not see beyond the outer exterior of her.…

In the novel of “Of Mice and Men” Steinbeck invented an extremely ambiguous character known as Curely’s Wife. Readers would ether like or dislike the personality of Curley’s Wife. Her dream was to be in the movies as she quotes “Nother time I met a guy an’ he was in pitchers. Went out to the Riverside Dance Palace with him. He says he was gonna put me in the movies. Says I was a natural” In the novel she was massively disliked by the other characters for her attracting the attention of other men when she was married. She does this by the way she dresses. This makes her sexually provocative and attractive to men.…

John Steinbeck presents Curley’s wife at the start of the story as an irrelevant character because she has no relation with George and Lennie. At the start, Curley is one of the most important characters (besides George and Lennie) because he has the power to crush George and Lennie’s dream of having a farm of your own. But as the story goes on, to end, we see the importance of her character and that everything that has happened on the ranch is caused by her presence; even though she is not in the story as much as others, she has a long lasting effect on the other characters. She is mentioned in the story a lot because of how she would acted around the men working in the ranch. In the end, we knew Lennie and George were not going to get a farm of their own because of how Lennie is drown to trouble all the time but we ultimately find out that it’s Curly’s wife that crushes George and Lennie’s dreams when Lennie kills her. Again her presence caused a lot of trouble in the ranch which furthermore kills Lennie and their dream. She is a defined as a villain by how she is pruned to flirt and seeks attention from anyone she comes across. She is racist and mean to some of the workers e.g. Crooks and Candy, because she knows even though she is not liked; she has the power to make their lives a living hell. She is also considered a victim because before she dies, she talks to Lennie about how she had all these dreams about becoming an actress and being famous; and as the reader we see her true self and we see that deep down she is a kind and lovely person. We then know that she is only flirtatious and mean to the men because she is just trying to have bond with someone because Curly has commanded her not to talk to anyone; this made her lonely and bitter. Her racist remarks to Crooks wasn’t only because of her bitter behaviour, but because in her times black people were not treated well anyway. Steinbeck presents Curly’s wife as a trouble maker and a pest but he also made…

Lennie's retarded mind causes the death of Curley's wife and his puppy. For example when Lennie killed Curley's wife it was because of his slow mind that caused her to panic and Lennie to shake her telling her to stop which ultimately killed her. When Lennie was petting her hair, she told him to stop because he will ruin her hair. Once she got angry, Lennie got scared and grabbed her hair, causing her to panic and lead Lennie to shake her to her death. Another example would be when Lennie was playing with the puppy and was throwing it up into the air not thinking about the consequences. Lennie was “playing” with his puppy throwing him in the air, but Lennie unable to think about the consequences quick enough shook the puppy to its death.…

"I'd pet 'em, and pretty soon they bit my fingers and I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead- because they was so little” Lennie stated in chapter 1. If Curley’s wife would’ve left the premises like she was asked to, this tragedy would have never been close to occurring, This selfless act committed by Lennie was in no means on purpose, he has no idea what action he is doing when he does this, he can hardly control his own body movements. First off the bat is Lennie. Being one the main characters in the book, he also suffers from one of the heaviest examples of injustice present. Lennie is big, strong, and mentally retarded. He does not realize his own physical strength, and therefore he constantly becomes a victim of it throughout the book. He really has no idea of what is going on around him, and sticks to very simple thoughts, copying other people's reactions and manner of behavior when he can. When he starts being picked on by Curley, he doesn't know what to do. Curley picks on Lennie because he is big and Curley isn't, therefore Curley is jealous of his size and constantly shoots him down. Curley really doesn't understand the way Lennie is and how he doesn't know how fight back against Curley. Even if Curley did know what was wrong with Lennie, he wouldn't have cared. He still would have used Lennie as a tool for taking his anger out on. Another case of injustice against Lennie is when he is hunted down for the murder of Curley's wife. Although Lennie was the one who killed her, Curley and the others don't realize that he never meaned to hurt her. Slim and George is the only ones who know what has really happened here, and they really have no power over an enraged Curley. George can't take the fact that Curley is going to shoot Lennie, to trap like a scared animal then take pleasure in kill him. So George shoots Lennie himself, while Lennie is happy. Even if Curley didn't shoot Lennie, he would have been locked up in a mental institution for the…

When Lennie entered the barn on that ranch in the Salinas River Valley that beautiful autumn afternoon, he had no intention of killing anyone. He did not plan to hurt anyone, run away from a crime, or get in any kind of trouble. He went in the barn simply to be with his new puppy. When Lennie and Curley’s wife began to talk Lennie did not have a carefully laid out plan to kill her, nor was he filled with rage. However, when he was stroking her hair harder and harder, and she began to pull away and scream because of the pain he was causing her, he saw his one dream of tending rabbits, owning his own place, and living off of the fat of the land slip away. He got caught up in the heat of the moment. He placed one hand over her mouth, and another on her shoulder and began to violently throttle her in an effort to silence her. Lennie, by this time, was quite upset with Curley’s wife. She was destroying his carefully laid out plan. As you know after being brutally shaken, Curley’s wife’s, neck snapped, and she was suddenly dead.…
