Who Is Chris Mccandless In Into The Wild
The book “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer talks about an adventurous young man that travels into the Alaskan wilderness pursuing the right lifestyle for himself. Chris McCandless was a modern day nomad from the 20th century looking for a way to live a free life. Chris found out that his father never divorced his first wife causing an impact on his life that helps with his decision to live a nomadic life. Chris is very intelligent young man but at the same time an arrogant one too who has taken on a path to travel to the Alaska and live the free life that he desires.
Chris’s adventures took him to many different places where he met many different people that helped him along the way. In the film “Into the Wild” Penn, S (Director). (2008), Chris is portrayed as a man that believes he can do anything he puts his mind to. His main goal was to make it all the way to Alaska where he could live on his own in the wild. Now many people admire Chris for his dedication in following through with his plan to move to Alaska, while others believe he was arrogant believing he could survive without any experience being in the wild. Graduating from not only high school but also college would also back the fact that he is somewhat smart. But no matter how book smart you are does not allow you to go into the Alaskan wilderness and survive like it’s a piece of cake. This is where Chris’s arrogance shows because he believes he can go into the wild and survive off of minimal knowledge of the land and in survival alone. His arrogance and lack in knowledge definitely shows in the overall outcome of his fate because in the end Chris dies of starvation which could have been avoided with proper training and
