Where Would You Like to Live: City or Countryside
The topic for my speech is where you would like to live ──in the city or in the countryside? I think I am the very person to offer the answer because I used to live in the countryside and I am now living in the city. So it's easy for me to make a comparison. As the saying goes, every coin has two sides. When you hear this question you may be aware that there are advantages and disadvantages of living in either place. What's good about living in the city? First, it's very convenient. You don't have to travel a long way to get what you need. And as telephone has be-come more widely used, sometimes you can do shopping at home. All you have to do is to dial a few numbers. What's more? You can enjoy spiritual products easily in the city. You can go to the library and bury yourself in the famous works of Shakespeare or Charles Dickens. Or you can relax yourself by going to the cinema for the recent blockbuster Titanic. They are right at hand. And what about in the countryside? I still remember the great mountains and flowing streams that I was familiar with. Everything is so natural and everybody there enjoys a peaceful life. That is one advantage of living in the countryside. You also don't have to worry about the noise or traffic jams or carrying your child to and from kindergarten. These problems do not exist there. Now let's look at the other side of the coin. What are the disadvantages? Living in the city, I think, the biggest problem is pollution. The air is so polluted that it has become a dream for me to have a breath of purely fresh air. I don't know when this dream can come true. When I was living in the countryside, my favorite hobby was to observe the sky at night and count the stars. Now the sky above the city is so polluted that hardly any star can by seen at night. That's one of the disadvantages of living in the city. Of course, there are also other disadvantages. It's backward and inconvenient in transportation and communication. When I was living

Many families and individuals find themselves at some point questioning the advantages of city living versus country living. It is nearly impossible to find a good answer to this question. What is good for one person might not be good for another. Some people enjoy the busy, hyper active metropolitan city where they can use all amenities and have unlimited opportunities for work and leisure. At the same time, other people feel the urge to be closer to Mother Nature, relaxation, beauty, and peace. They take pleasure in living in the calm and peaceful environment of the countryside and spending their free time fishing, hiking, picking berries in the woods, or playing in the creek. In my opinion, the nature of urban and rural life style and the effect it has on people is the most important difference between living in the city and living in the country. I feel fortunate to have grown up in the rural area. I would never trade my memories of playing in the creek, riding four wheelers, or climbing trees all within a short walk from my house. Health, education, and transportation are three major concerns that need to be considered. While city life can bring more opportunities in these cases, country life can provide the best of both worlds.…

My primary reason for choosing the country instead of the city is the clean environment. The air smells fresh and clean, because there are less cars creating pollution. In the city, there are busses, taxis, and cars on all the streets contributing harmful chemicals into the air. While automobiles are not the only cause of pollution, there are also more factories and plants to pollute the air. In the country, the only major industry would be farming, which does not pollute the air in any way. There are more people in the city breathing the air and less forest area to help control the pollution. Since there are less people in the country than in the city, the amount of littering on the roads is also less. The polluted air is very harmful to the human body and that is why I will choose to raise my family in the country where there is less pollution. The clean environment is not the only reason that I will choose to live in the country.…
