Writing varies from a text message to a novel. Writers often have a difficult task in creating a piece of work that truly identifies the meaning of good writing. Every good writer usually starts with the basics such as genre, audience, rhetorical situation, and reflection of the piece. Throughout this semester, we have gone through all of these key terms in great detail with each new assignment that has come our way. In doing this, not only as students but also as writers, we have come to create our own theory of writing. Every writer has a different theory of writing though most are very similar. Now, at this point in the semester after doing countless journals, in-class exercises, and final assignments, I think I have figured out my own theory of writing.…

    1) The difference between an opinion and a fact is that an opinion can be used as the main topic of an essay. It is based on partial knowledge of a subject where the writer thinks what seems true. In a fact, however, the statements are based on absolute certainty and can be proven if needed to. Facts cannot be used as an essay topic since no sides exist, meaning no people to persuade.…

Everyone writes for different reasons. Writing allows us to tell a story through our own perspective. It allows us to pour all our thoughts and emotions into something that we otherwise might not speak about. Writing can spark ideas and memories we have and draw them out to be put into words on paper. It exercises our mind and our way of thinking. When you write you say what you mean. Some people use writing as an outlet, a way to express themselves or relieve stress and anxiety. It can be used for any purpose. Elie Wiesel uses his experience in the holocaust in a lot of his writing. He feels that he must be the one to tell the story of the victims, the ones who can’t tell it for themselves. As a survivor he is responsible for never letting anyone forget…

Fighting temptation describes a battle that is as much spiritual as it is emotional or physical. To be tempted is not a sin. Everyone is tempted and at different levels. Even Jesus was tempted! Temptation happens when the opportunity is presented to do what we know is wrong, whether against God, ourselves, or others. Being tempted is not wrong - it's the decision to do wrong and the corresponding action that follows.…

In Stafford’s essay “A Way of Writing,” he claims that “receptivity” and “a willingness to fail” are key components to his writing process. Being receptive means that you are willing to receive something, in Stafford’s case, it is ideas and or someone else’s knowledge. If you are receptive towards others’ comments and ideas, it will only help you as a writer and give you more perspective and a different angle. A willingness to fail means that you are accepting of failure and you are aware that sometimes, you just can’t win. Having willingness to fail as a writer means that you understand that not every piece of work will be perfected and completed.…

Most people in the United States are now aware that disposing of electronic equipment by traditional methods—such as dumping in landfills—is harmful to the environment. It is intuitive to people that placing large items that will never completely break down in landfills is a wasteful use of land, but the reasons for special treatment of electronic waste go beyond that. Electronics contain hazardous materials that can harm the planet if placed untreated in landfills. Also, many electronic devices contain valuable materials that can be reused, thereby conserving natural resources.…

In today's world if a person want to become prominent and successful he needs to attain a quality of education. In United States many student graduates from various majors like Biology, Math, Psychology, History or Chemistry. My major is Computer Science. Currently I am in Junior year at UMBC. (" University of Maryland Baltimore County"). My academic goal is to become a Programmer and gain expertise in technical communication skills like writing, speaking, presenting, and collaborating. As a writer I have little experience. I did lower level English courses and ENGLISH (101) course at " Frederick Community College". There I learned many things like verbs, noun, pronoun, run on sentences, and writing research paper. But, as English is not my first language I still do some grammatical mistakes. So, I decided to take Technical Communication class this semester at UMBC which I think will definitely help in improving my writing and other skills.…

Every person has that one thing or person that they can go to whenever they are feeling troubled. Not only does it feel good to express what is bothering you out loud, but it’s also comforting to know that you don’t need to tell the entire world what you are feeling. Writing to me is the chance for me to express myself with an endless amount of words. There is no limit on what you can say or how much you can say.
