What Would You Do Analysis

Society is quick to judge and people are quick to stereotype other people. In the show "What Would You Do" three people were trying to steal a bike. The first one was a white male and most of the people just walked by or asked "Is that your bike," and his reply was "No," then the people just kept walking by and didn't even try to stop him. There was roughly 100 people an hour that just walked by until an old couple walked up and tried to stop him. Next, was a black male and the first person to walk by tries to stop him right off the bat, and the person was talking loud so that they could have safety in numbers. In the television show 'What Would You Do" an actor pretended to be a mom and put her “kids” on a leash to see how people would react. First, the mom had two kids and was treating them like dogs, then she tied them up on a pole outside and went into a shop. People were just staring and someone even took a video. There was also a video on youtube about a mother dragging her kid through a store by a leash. No person should drag their kid by a leash through a store where people are constantly walking. When the director asked a man why he didn't stop it the man simply replied with "Not my place, not my business," so he is saying that since it isn't his children or he doesn't know the mom or children that he can't do anything about it. Some kids with behavior disorders or just any disorders might have to be on leashes when they are little so they don't act out and hurt themselves by running away or doing other things. In the show the mother handed a man the leash with the little girl on it and he just stood there and held it for her. He didn't say anything about it. Throughout the show only a handful of people intervened to help the child. That is just roughly five people that was trying to help the child. In "What Would You Do" there was an episode about homelessness and in the beginning it showed people hurting actual homeless people by hitting them with bats and steel bars, catching them on fire, and urinating on them. Later on an actor came out pretending to be a homeless man and sat on the sidewalk. Then three actors who are playing teenagers came out and started to hit him with trash bag and calling him names. Some people just stared, but then people started to get involved and yell at the boys to go away but nothing was happening they just kept doing what they were doing and finally someone came out and started to nudge the boys away from the homeless man and someone helped get him to safety. Three to four people helped the homeless man. One man who helped the homeless man said "I don't assume that someone else is going to step in," but he didn't help until someone asked him to. Now, they gave the teen actors a fake bat. People started to act faster when they brought in the bat. They switched roles and now there is a homeless women. The people started to step in faster and more violently and almost every person is cussing. One woman that stepped in said “ You don’t care about me, you don’t care about people,”. Another woman said to the producers that “We’re empowered by that sense of community,”. In the end the homeless woman got more sympathy than the homeless man. Most people think
