What Strategies Might You Employ to Encourage Pupils to Behave Appropriately? Describe How You Might React to Incidents of Bullying and Violence.
The use of praise and encouragement can be very productive in helping to promote positive behaviour. Being consistent allows for the student to understand what is and is not considered positive behaviour. The schools policy and guidelines regarding behaviour should be followed at all times. Reward systems are helpful in promoting positive behaviour, rewards should be relevant and consistent, taking into account the pupils needs and circumstances. Involving students in discussions of what rewards are appropriate and what the rewards are given for, will also help them towards promoting more positive behaviours as then they have a voice and can express their understanding of what positive behaviour is. It is important that the pupil understands what is and is not positive behaviour reward systems and being clear in your expectations aids this. Using a calm and positive approach at all times is helpful when dealing with challenging behaviours, as it allows for expectations to be understood, and the explanations of why the behaviour was not acceptable. It is important at this point to understand that all students develop emotionally different and to take this into account. All behaviour should be noted and the teacher informed of changes in behaviour.
Incidents of bullying and violence must be dealt with in a calm and consistent manner, listening to the students involved and not taking sides.
There are a number of different signs of bullying including physical and becoming withdrawn, becoming emotionally unsettled. All occurrences of bullying should be recorded and reported to the teacher. My philosophy of guiding children’s positive behaviors is through praising children when they have done a good job at something. For example, if it is time to clean up and I see a child putting away toys nicely I will say “I like how you put away the toys Razi, good job”. Also a soft pat on the back when a child has accomplished a new task such as putting on their own shoes, n shows affection and pride. . In addition, when a child shares I show am glad they are doing such a great job. It is important to acknowledge their positive behaviors in order to encourage the children to keep it up. This approach is very different from the way I was guided as a child because when I was in school, the teachers would not say much whenever I had done something good, which made me feel like perhaps my positive behaviors and actions had been overlooked or did not matter much to my teachers.…

Bullying has become an epidemic, and it needs to come to an end. If people will stand up for each other and protect each other, I believe bullying would cease to be effective. It preys on those who do not have the confidence to defend themselves. Often times, the bully hurts others as a way of protecting himself. He believes that if he attacks others, then they will not know he himself is hurting, or has been hurt in the past. It becomes a coping mechanism for him. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that bullying should not be responded to with more violence. They need to be shown love, but firm love. A love that says, “I love you enough to not let you continue down this path. Let me show you another way.” Then you are not only l protecting those that the bully hurts, but also you are protecting the bully himself in the long run.…
