In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States we are seeing many forms of Patriotism. I was surprised to find when I researched this word that it had a lot of negative feelings. I believe that Patriotism is a showing your support for your country, standing up for what you believe in, and fighting for individual independence.
First, I’m proud of my country I’m not ashamed to say the Pledge of Allegiance, or hold up the American Flag. Many men and women have died to give me the freedom that I take for granted. I thank them for giving me my way of freedom. When I’m older I will elect officials who believe in the issues I do, and who work for the better. I will not follow nor ask questions or agree with everything the government says or does. I hope that you, as an American citizen will learn about your government and learn to support it, by voting, writing your congressmen, and making a difference for the better and peace.
Next, In standing up for what you believe in. I can speak about my beliefs without trying to impose them on my friends. America stands for diversity and to have patriotism is to believe that all people have a right to believe in their own values. Emma Goldman said “ Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by a iron gate. Those who had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grader, more intelligent then others that live in different spots. It is therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all others.” Patriotism stands for fighting for everyone to have the same freedom that I do. If others want to believe something that I don’t, I’m not going to push then into believing in the same thing I do.
Lastly, our country has been fighting for our individual independence for years. I believe that everyone should be able to do as they please. Our fellow presidents fought hard to give us independence. The Revolutionary war played a big roll on lives with out the war there would be no independence. After the war the declaration of independence was signed, and from that day forward we’ve had independence. The laws are slowly taking are independence away. They have been passing so many new laws, and if they keep passing all theses laws we wont have any individual independence left.
In Conclusion, what patriotism means to me is showing your support for your country, standing up for what you believe in, and fighting for individual independence. You may not agree with everything I say but everyone has a voice and they should be heard.

If one is truly proud of their country, it will be evident to those around…

As a former president once said " And so, my fellow Americans ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country". Patriotism is found in every country, but it's the occupants of that country that have patriotism towards their own. This loyalty is seen in both "How to Tell a True War Story" and "Soldiers Home". Patriotism to me is one's natural right to show pride in being an American. Patriotism exists on different levels when taking into consideration people's perspective on war.…

In times of war, such as these, the importance for everyone to know where they stand on the idea of patriotism so they can voice or enact their opinion to the government and the people around them in a more clear and fair fashion is multiplied. The idea of patriotism can often be an obscure one, and during times of heightened security patriotism is a more spoken upon subject. Discussing the many different views of what patriotism means is a key step in better defining patriotism for all people. Barbara Kingsolver says in her article, "My patriotic duty is to recapture my flag from the men now waving it in the name of jingoism and censorship" (Pg. 2). What she means by this is that the idea of patriotism is being morphed into something it is not. She…

For all of my life, I have been an American citizen. I’ve never thought of my freedoms and rights as being a blessing, for I’ve never known anything different. But now that I have gone to DC and have seen all of our national buildings and landmarks, like the white house, Arlington Cemetery, the Jefferson Memorial, and so on, I now have a newly founded appreciation for my liberties. All of the rights I have as an american are very special and unique, for the concept of everyone being equal was new in our world. Also, the bravery of our forefathers is astonishing, for they could have been tried and hung for treason if we didn’t win the war. And the government they establish is completely original and is completely, as put by our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, “of the people, by the people, for the people,” and in my opinion, constructed in liberty, and most importantly, freedom.…

America was created to have freedom. Our fellow neighbors die for this cause, and there are ways to support them and this country that we should take advantage of. Thankful for this independent countries progress, I want to promote the importance there is behind the civic duties we follow, the traditions we hold, and the amount of respect we as americans place on our troops. Although there may be differences, and America is one of the biggest on-going melting pots with multiple backgrounds, each person shares a responsibility to upkeep the love of our freedom. For Americans to come together and share in the traditions that have been made before us and the ones we continue to create are the ways we can represent the love and significance of Americanism.…

Patriotism encourages unwanted violence. Philosophers have suggestions that there is a correlation between being patriotic and having mistrust in other groups of people and how they live. This is also supported by A Study conducted in 2013 by the University of Texas at Arlington found a definite correlation between Patriotism and negative feelings toward Latino immigrants. (¨Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy¨) The Southern Poverty Law Center expressed concern about a resurgent patriot movement, and the United States Department of Homeland Security issued a report warning of heightened so called Right-wing Extremism. The Southern poverty law center attributed this growth to an angry backlash against non-white immigration. Patriotism surprisingly can also make rights violations acceptable.…

Patriotism isn’t something you know it is something you have to feel. Patriotism is the love of one's country and the willingness to defend it. Patriotism does not mean a lot to me at the point of my life. The way our government is treating immigrants is rude and irresponsible. Immigrants come here thinking this is where they can start over and then they do and our government throw it all away by deporting them. I would never work for my country in the army. The reasons are because I would never want to serve our president. Our president never thinks about what he is going to say and is rude to almost everyone. I mean patriotism would mean so much to me if Obama was president. I’m still grateful for everything I get and all my opportunities, but I wish someone who was a different race would have the same opportunities as me. People still Judge people by their race. I mean we say that there is…
