This paper has been far more difficult to research than I thought it would be. Unfortunately, photographers are not always given the full credit they desrve for their work and therefore, it is impossible to find the names of the artists of some of my favorite photographs. Instead, I decided to just look up popular photographers in the fashion industry in hopes of having easier access to information. Despite the fact that I now had the names of some of the most world famous fashion photographers, finding information on them is a whole other story in and of itself. As I am beginning to realize, the saying among the photography department is true- if you are not Annie Leibovitz, you will not be known until you are dead. For example, one of my favorite photographers is Diane Arbus. She had compiled vast amounts of work throughout her career. Unfortunately, all of her works were found in a locker after her suicide and then she was seen as an artist. To summarize what I am saying is that the only famous photographers are dead ones and all the successful ones are barely known. So in order for this research paper to even have the possibility of making it it to four pages, I am going to have to choose the cliché (yet greatly talented) photographer, Annie Leibovitz.…
“It is one of the commonest of mistakes to consider that the limit of our power of perception is also the limit of all there is to perceive.”(Leadbeater) Many people believe the way something is perceived, is always the way that it appears to be. In reality, there might be more to a person he is willing to show. If we assume that the way someone or something is seen is always as it appears to be, we would be lying to ourselves. A surplus of people are not exactly how they are seen to be. We should not judge someone too harshly as we may not have all of the facts or details of what is really happening to a person. Perceptions can override our abilities to correctly judge our peers and even ourselves, which can be very impactful.…
Unconventional, visionary, “ugly chic”; these are all words used to describe the undoubtedly influential Miuccia Prada. Miuccia Prada’s footprint on the fashion industry is both significant and enduring in an industry where trends and designers fade out as quickly as the come in. Although Prada is often noted as the anti-thesis of a typical designer, or the anti-fashionista, her work as a designer and artist influences and inspires both the traditional and untraditional (Miuccia Prada: The Reluctant Fashionista, n.d). Miuccia Prada has created a strong identity for herself as a designer who combines the avant-garde with the ready-to-wear, the ugly with the delicate, luxury without the sex appeal, and a classicism that often embraces outlandish fusions of colors and patterns. She describes her own work as a way to “express, in a simple banal object, a great complexity about women, aesthetics, and current times”(Lovinski, 2010). Even with no formal background or training in design, Prada still creates fashions that are ahead of the times, constantly pushing herself to new limits and often embracing what she even typically dislikes to find beauty in the unordinary.…
1) As Troy Carter the option I would pursue for Lady Gaga is the first one which is of continuing with the arena tour. It does not make any financial sense to cancel the show completely given the fact that they have already incurred sunk cost of $4 million in developing the Fame Kills Tour with Kanye West and this amount cannot be recovered. So the third option is out of the picture. In any business, those who take risks can reap great rewards than those who are afraid to do so. Therefore it’s better to build upon the already laid foundation and proceed with the tours than cancelling because of fear of incurring more loses.…

There is no doubt that the mass media is omnipresent, mediating every aspect of our lives. How one relates to and interprets the world is largely colored by how the media informs us. In the world today, media has become as necessary as food and clothing. It is considered as the “mirror” of the modern society. It informs people about current affairs and entertains through the latest gossip and fashion. The role of media has become one way of trading and marketing of products and prejudice. Communities and individuals are bombarded constantly with messages from a multitude of sources including TV, billboard and magazines, to name a few. These messages promote not only products but moods, attitudes and a sense of what is and is not important. Mass media makes possible the concept of celebrity: without the ability of movies, magazines, music and news media to reach across thousands of miles, people could not become famous. (Chandler 2000) emphasizes the role of mass media in the reproduction of status quo.…
What is fashion? Fashion is wearing clothes, shoes, and accessories in the way that you like and sometimes praised by people. Nowadays, there are many magazine, newspapers, websites, and blogs are all about fashion styles. Many photographers take photos of famous stars, rich people, models, and designers’ runways. Bill is a photographer “on the street”, and he doesn’t care who is the person that he is taking the picture of. He only cares if he is interested in the styles that people are wearing or not. I have observed his photos, and I found out that Bill was also very concerned about details. He took picture with specific details such as shoes whether high or low, the hair styles whether they are suitable for the clothing or not, and the accessories whether they are still good looking with the clothing or not. I like this man and this film because Bill is not only working with the fashion, he also concerned about people’s arrangement skills of the clothing and give them comments when he is editing the pictures with his colleagues, he put his whole life with fashion and he is still passionate, and he is recording fashionable elements of details with the whole New York city, likewise, his photo, magazine, and newspaper collections are the fashion history of New York city.…

Throughout the history of women’s fashion it is known that each decade creates its own symbolic fashion statement within that time frame. The change in women’s fashion advertising is hard to go un-noticed once looked upon. In the 1940’s women’s fashion seemed to be relatively tolerable and not very difficult to strive for when it came to a women’s perspective. As opposed to today’s fashion advertisement for women; the image that “defines” beauty is what some would describe as unreachable without drastic sacrifice. The women in the image of a 1940s women’s advertisement compared to women in an image of today’s fashion could almost be described as a women that failed to make the cut in strive of todays “beauty”. If you ask me, women’s fashion advertisement has snowballed downhill since the 1940s.…
