What Life's Greatest Lessons Has Taught Me

Have you ever sat down and actually thought about your life? Like really

thought about it, the choices you have made, the mistakes, the things you have said

both good and bad, and the attitudes you have had towards people. Well I

personally never thought it was important. I was stubborn, so bull-headed. I never

took any advice from anyone. It was my way, or the highway. I never thought I had

to listen to what anyone told me. I got myself into lots of deep holes in life. I never

thought that what I did could really affect anyone else. I mean it is my life right?

But turns out it affects more people than I could ever imagine.

"Oh man I hate my life, it is horrible." Ever hear yourself saying that or even

thinking it? A lot of people have been there in their lives, I know I have. I am the

middle child. My older brother being my mom's baby and my younger sister being

the baby of the family. I never thought anything was fair growing up. They would

get something and I would not. I threw a fit saying "It is not fair!" Looking back

maybe they earned it and I did not. As a senior in high school sometimes I still

wonder if life will ever be fair. I know everything in life is not handed to you, you

have earn it. Life does not owe us anything, we owe life. This chapter Life Is

Hard... and Not Always Fair has really opened my eyes. It has shown me that life

is not about fairness. Life is what you make it, and how you overcome all the of

obstacles it throws your way. I am a complainer, a big one at that, but complaining

only makes the situation worse. I never solved my problems, I would just walk

away and brush them off. I have fights with my friends, parents, boyfriend, and my

siblings. I hate fighting because I have a big mouth when I am mad, and I do

I am a very smart young woman sometimes I just let certain things get the best of my personality. Making good choices is about thinking about the things that you are about to do before you do it. Choices that we make can either be good or bad. There are many things that affect the choices that we make, and one factor that plays into the choices that we make is peer pressure. In A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines, Mr. Grant Wiggins' life crises were the center of the story. Although he was supposed to make Jefferson into a man, he himself became more of one as a result. Not to say that Jefferson was not in any way transformed from the "hog" he was into an actual man, but it could be believed this story was really written about Mr. Wiggins. Mr. Wiggins improved as a person greatly throughout the novel, and that helped his relationships with other people for the most part. But as a reader it cannot be forgotten about how Grant’s attitude was in the beginning to actually see the transformation in him. Grant’s bitterness was not one to look up to in the beginning of the novel because of his former teacher’s bitterness growing up. Though this was a negative in Grant’s personality he managed to have connections with people and grow through them. For example how he taught Jefferson meaning to life and to become a man. Through this Jefferson felt he could trust showing what impact each character had on each other. In the novel each character had their own characteristics and personality. There was something special about each character in the book. Each of them had their strong points and weak points for example Grant was always running away from his problems. This showed that even though Grant did become a man from teaching Jefferson in the end; for most of the novel Grant’s bitterness impacted his life strongly that he did not cope with his adversities well.…

Not everyone believes that life is not fair, but everyone eventually will reach a point in your life that this will come into play. For example, “At the front door, we saw fire spewing from Miss Maudie’s dining room windows (Lee 69)”. Miss Maudie did not plan this. She lost everything in her house. Maudie did not think anything like this would happen ever, which is not fair in her part. Therefore, when people say life is not always fair there are right for sure.
