What Is a Worldview?
WHAT IS A WORLD VIEW
A worldview is a person’s philosophy on life. Hindson and Caner define it as “the framework of beliefs by which a person views the world around him.”(The Popular Encyclopedia of Apologetics, Ed Hindson and Ergun Caner; Pg. 498).
There are three primary categories of worldviews; theism, naturalism, and pantheism.
Theism is the view or belief that one God exists. This God is usually the center of all things; everything begins and ends with this deity. Christianity falls under this form of worldview.
Naturalism is the belief/view that God does not exist. As such, everything must be answered in natural terms. They feel that science has an answer for everything that exists. Atheistic religion falls under this worldview.
Pantheism denies the existence of a personal god. Rather, they feel that all that exists is a part of god, saying that all in the universe is sacred. Some believe in a form of reincarnation, while others believe in a type of “force.” Hinduism and Buddhism fall under this worldview.

ARTICULATE THE BIBLICAL WORLDVIEW There are five key questions that one can use to evaluate and one’s worldview. I will use these five questions to try to articulate the biblical/Christian worldview, and show why it is believed. The first question is the Question of Origin. This is the basic question of “how did mankind come into existence?” According to the biblical worldview, everything came into existence as the result of God, our Creator. God is the first cause. The two Bible examples that support this are Genesis 1:1; 2 Peter 1:21. The second question is the Question of Identity. What does it mean to be human? Are we more important than the other animals? As Christians, we know that mankind is a special creation of God. God spoke all other things into existence, but he created man, from clay, in his own image. The importance of man is found in these two Scriptures: Psalms 8:5; Genesis 2:15. The third question is the Question of

A worldview is easily described as the person’s perception of the world around them and is the framework for decision making. You can think of a worldview like a pair of glasses. When you look out of those glasses what do you see? Dr. Weider in his presentation gave an example; if your glasses are red then everything around you will be red. (Weider & Gotierrez, 2011) This is the same for worldview. Everyone has a worldview if they know it or not. It’s how we organize our thinking about life, death, art, science, faith, learning, work, money, values, and morals. (Weider & Gutierrez, 2011, p.50) Worldview is our underlying philosophy of life.…

Naturally, the term worldview is often difficult to define because it describes something that varies depending on the person. In its simplest form, a worldview is what one uses to reflect and analyze the information that he receives or develops. In other words, it is the perspective that one uses to view the world from. A worldview allows us to make conclusions, which are based on presuppositions pertaining to our viewpoint, about the things that surround us. Everyone has a worldview, though not everybody knows that they have it or what it is. It is important to reflect often on your worldview, because it effects every decision we make and how we learn. Monotheism is the belief in one god. If a mass group of people believe in something singular, it’s more likely for all of them to have similar morality and ethic beliefs. This can make the entire society lean together toward to better morals. Monotheistic believers believe that the one god they believe in is to judge them so they all stay in place.…

We also have to contemplate the thoughts of identity when we think of Worldview asking ourselves “What does it mean to be of human kind?” and “Should we consider ourselves above animals?” Theists believe that God is a separate entity from oneself, as so are animals. As the Bible says “You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor.” (Psalm 8:5) We also consider the thoughts that Male and female were both created “in the image of God” and were given the responsibility to rule over the animals and to be their caretakers (Genesis 2:15). Theists don 't believe we will be reborn into lower life forms or should worship the animals as the Pantheists. We believe we are to be caretakers of the animals and may benefit from the reaping of the earth such as natural resources and animals for food.…

In short, a worldview is “the framework of beliefs by which a person views the world around him” (Caner & Hindson, 498). Coined by Prussian philosopher, Immanuel Kant, it originally translated as “our intuition of the world” but later came to be known as worldview. However, a worldview cannot be summed up in just one sentence. Every person has a worldview, or a philosophy of life. Each person has a filter, or a lens, they use when making decisions. This is based on personal experiences and should also be based on truth, logic, and evaluation. The problem with varying worldviews is not every person or society uses truth, logic, and evaluation to form one.…
