Everyone thought Brother’s younger brother, William Armstrong, would die in his first months of life. William Armstrong was born underweight, unhealthy and no one thought he would survive besides there aunt. There dad even had a coffin pre-made for William Armstrong. When he survived they decided to rename him because they only named him that because he was supposed to die. So they named him Doodle. Siblings should have tight bonds. Brother gave Doodle swimming lessons and taught him how to row a boat when it was warm outside. Then when it was cooler he gave him lessons on how to box and how to climb. Then, on a warm day outside they were rowing when storm clouds came about them so they hurried off the boat back to their house. Brother was running as fast as he could, not checking for Doodle. Little did he know Doodle had fallen and had been bleeding excessively. When Brother finally turned around to look for him , it was too late.“Finally I went back and found him huddled beneath a red nightshade bush beside the road. He was sitting on the ground, his face buried in his arms which were resting on his drawn up knees. “Let's go , Doodle,” I said. He didn’t answer , so I placed my hand on his forehead and lifted his head. Limply, he fell backwards onto the earth. He had been bleeding from the mouth, and his neck and the front of his shirt were stained a brilliant red.” This shows how Brother’s pride in Doodle over-powered his thoughts into forgetting about his illness.
