What Is The Role That Hatred Played In Romeo And Juliet
To the editor of Romeo and Juliet.
I am writing this letter to you regarding the role that hatred played in Romeo and Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet is a play about two young lovers whose love was destined for destruction from the beginning, because of the hatred between the two families, the Monatgues and the Capulets. Therefore the themes of love and hate are very important in the play as the plot is driven by two topics. I believe the tragedy only unfolded the way it did because of all the hatred between the Montagues and Capulets. " From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood makes civil hands unclean." (Prologue, 3-4).

"As i hate hell, all Monatgues and thee." (I, i, 65)
Tybalt using these powerful words is ranking Benvolio and all other Montagues at the same level as hell and is expressing extreme hatred.
When Romeo and his friends intruded on the Capulets' party, Romeo saw Juliet for the first time and he fell in love with her instantly. But Romeo and Juliet's love was too innocent for a world of feuds. "My only love has sprung from my only hate." (I, v, 47)
The two families thoroughly hated each other and they would never have accepted Romeo and Juliet's love for one another.
Therefore the only reason this tragedy unfolded was because of the hatred between the two families. If they could just accept their children and their love, the fight between Romeo and Tybalt would not have happened. So Romeo would not have banished. The Capulets would not have forced Juliet to marry Paris, she would not have drunk the potion and wouldn't have killed herself to begin with, Romeo wouldn't have found his love 'dead' therefore he wouldn't have killed himself and when Juliet woke up she wouldn't have found her only love dead and she would not have committed suicide either.
