What Is The Mayhem In Lord Of The Flies
After reading Lord of the Flies I realized that most people see the mayhem that occurred ro stranded boys on an island. However, i saw what they accomplished. They made a temporary society, something that would be difficult for any group of any age. Keeping a close leash on their sanity was difficult but most seemed to hold on in some way even the young “littluns.” Rescue was on everyones mind, and it was understood that they needed a signal, a smokey fire. Everything they went through was difficult, and they nearly all shattered from the craziness.
Making a temporary society was the first thing that was accomplished. Ralph and Piggy met and went to the lagoon side of the island, they found a conch and Ralph blew it, attracting all the boys that were on the plane when the pilot had to drop them off the burning airship. When everyone gathered Ralph was appointed Chief, against, Jack, leader of the choir boys, wishes. He felt he should be the Chief, even though he was appointed leader of the hunters. So after Jack could no longer stand Ralph’s logical views, he broke off into another tribe, taking most people with him. Throughout the book, fire was a signal to passing vessels that the boys were stranded on the island. When Jack created his tribe and took everyone but Ralph, Piggy, Sam n’ Eric, and a few littluns, the fire also served as a sense of comfort and security to the few. In the end, it wasn't the fire they so painfully kept up that saved them. It was when Jack’s savaged tribe attempted to capture Ralph, and in return set everything on fire. Jack believed that having fun was better for their survival than the rescue fire, but when he needed it to cook he went to great lengths to get Piggy’s glasses,which they used to start the
